Surfing In War-Torn Liberia

In 1975, 'Surfer' gave glimpses of spectacular pointbreak waves in Robertsport, Liberia. When Naughton and Peterson explored West Africa it was in the Golden Age of Liberia, with the country enjoying political stability and economic success. During the 1980s things fell apart and 14 years of war ravaged the country. Recently, peace brought a new opportunity, and the long peninsula hooked around Lake Piso caught John Callahan’s photographic eye.

John travelled to Liberia with writer Sam Bleakley, Randy Rarick (perhaps the best-travelled surfer in the world), Fred D-Orey and Emilio Cataldi to explore a new promised land for the adventurous surfer.

On one of the links is a Dan Malloy slide show, on Surfers mag. Don`t know much about that area, but i have friends who have worked in that part of the world. Can be a bit hairy  . Looks great though. When do you think they will start package holidays
