Unless its changed, its not open all year :?

The owners will often open it up at the weekend, but not always.

I was there a couple of years ago during an epic winters day when it was shut and the traffic chaos was hilarious (I'd got there at dawn and parked at the top of the hill). Around lunchtime, the car park people finally turned up and let everyone into the car park. The surfers who'd sat in their cars for two hours watching the beautiful waves were not too happy...

Oh, and on another occassion someone brought some bolt-cutters

Also when it is shut there's a short stretch of track you can still get to at the top of the car park. It's the bit for high vehicles when the height bars are in.

Essex is right about it being expensive too, and the price will often change depending on the swell and wind conditions, if it's good, or the wind is anywhere in the south the price rises.

yep i noticed that. I was there last in sept, the car park attendants usually left at 6pm most of the week but hung around an hour longer cos there was a good swell running and everywhere else was blown out, people were waiting at the top of the hill for them to leave. Charged the usual full days parking late into the evening too :?

I slept there one night and it wasn't high season, infact I think it was frosty and no one else around. Was woken up to a banging on the window around 7'ish and had to get the cheque book out!!!

Fair enough it's owned by someone, but after travelling for hours and not sleeping there for long...I believe it was a hefty £17 for the night? Maybe more?

Search a little towards Woolacombe...plenty of 'free' spots!

Hmmm I surf putts regularly and have never seen it closed... weird!
If you want free parking ask someone who is leaving if you can have their ticket ;-)
I think you can just drive round the height bars, seen sum mooasive moterhomes down there.
A good break but quite often crowded when on/windy.

The white cottage at the bottom of the drive belongs to my wife's auntie, if you park on the left opposite the gate, then ring the gate bell. Tell her you are a mate of Peter she will let you stay for a couple of hours.
