Surfin' Solo

Surfing solo ‘cause there’s no one = around

Not a surfer on the beach to be = found

The waves are firing and I ‘aint = complaining

The sun is out and it ‘aint = raining

Picking off any wave I desire

Wave after wave, I ‘aint a = liar

You got no hassles when you’re surfing = solo

No missed waves and no sorrow

I'm going to have to disagree... i've spent this last year on my own pretty much 90% of the time and it really isn't what it cracks up to be. :(

I used to love it but all the time its just boo :( No-one to push you, no-one to charge with , no-one to mess about, no-one to appreciate the emptiness.

oh hum :(

can be nice the odd time, some of my best surf memories are from times on my own but nothing like having the craic with a few mates... pulling leashes, grabbing leashes as the cocky feckers whizz by ya, knocking mates off their boards, calling them onto close-outs, or waves that aren't forming up.

obviously errant disregard for safety in the name of having a laugh, never
on a big day tho... well ok, sometimes on a big day

My mates worked different shifts this year so surfed solo more than before. In some ways it's good in that I see a wave and get in, where as he is always looking for that bigger or better one.

However nothing beats the joking and having someone to pass the long trips with. I even did Portugal on my own this year, met some great people after a few days, friendly surfers who treat you like mates. Still miss the 'messing' about on the plane etc. and having someone to 'keep an eye open' when your in an unfamiliar break and different country.

So basically better with your mates :)

i surf a lot by myself. between my work schedule and just other things, i just go whenever. but i try to get out as much with friends. it's more fun. there is one spot that i never go to alone. because every time we've been out there we've seen at least one shark. i got bumped once by myself, so that was kind of sketchy. but usually there are other people out that i'm at least aquainted with or see a lot at that spot, so it's not completely solo

sometimes its good if the waves are really nice but in slow sets so you can just take the best ones but can get a bit lonely sometimes. just as well my bro and housemates go

When there's lot of crowd, take your friend. When its empty, go by yourself. That's my rule of thumb.

Its usually never empty around here.
More kooks are trying to be surfers these days. [Sarcasm] for those who can't read that.

I actually prefer surfing with a buddy or two...especially if it's empty. It's more fun, you can push each other, and someone else can watch you and let you know what your doing wrong....but most of all it's good to know you have someone out there with you if something goes wrong....or if you see a shark you can paddle next to your buddy and make sure he's between you and it. Happens more than you would think in florida

I'll probably be surfing alone for the next 6 months. no pals around in the USA... all of them in Brazil.

I really don't mind. I like surfing with friends, but surfing solo is also alright.

not a good idea. i was watching one of my mates getting nailed when he was on a minimal in big waves and was struggling to get out. a big set came in and just as i turned around to look at what was coming i got absolutely smashed..

nothing like cutting off my friends who call a wave for themselfves :D surfing alone is ok cause you can really focus
but just having someone to talk too or see is much better.not to mention the four foot shadows under you are alot less intimidating when your with people

Surfing solo sux. But I usually don't like more than 3-4 people on one peak tho. As soon as you start having to jock for position to score a wave then I don't care for it too much.
