Photos from a KiteCam...

A moment later, the whale smacked him one in the head with its tail :claps:

Story comes from Aussie Telegraph.

See if you can beat that one with TwatCam Kitey!

A kitesurfer at raglan at the weekend hassled a killer whale - there were some pics in the paper - I thought it looked like most of the local women.

If you read the report about the incident (its been all over the kitesurfing forums already) the whale surfaced completely unexpectedly infront of the kitesurfer and then disappeared just as quickly.
As for hassling killer whales well its not inmy top 10 of safe things to do whilst on the open ocean.

Are they dodgy? I thought they were like huge dolphins as opposed to bitey things?

I dont think he was really annoying the whale... It was just a grumpy and unpredictable southern right.

It was just fortunate the whale came up under me and took a bend. It would have been nice to get it a second later when the tail came up and hit me in the back of the head, but you take what you get."

Somebody get the dude a real camera, he's a photog at heart! Hahaha what a great quote. The dude just got slapped in the head by a whale but his main regret is taking the pic too early, hahaha.

Seeing a whale is one thing ,,, but to surf over the top of one. A great life memory it is. Unless the wale knocks you sensless,ha ha ha and as for teasing a killer whale na not even in my book of things to do. I'd tease a shark before a killer whale.

Can you imagine being that close to a whale? You're not in a boat, but right on the surface of the water. It must have been exhilarating

suggest we all rent out "Finding Nemo" and learn to speak whale so we can understand the warning shout they give which probably translates as "my wave .. kook"
