i am originally from san diego, but i go to school in santa cruz. and even though the surf is good here. the vibe is incredibly shitty. local surfers are such fleshin' dicks. they actually think they own a part of the ocean, or a spot. its such bull. surfing is about enjoyment, having a good time, harmony with life around you. but no, these fleshin' have to ruin it with their aggression. anyway so pretty much this is a thread to vent about the bull that is localism. and nobody better say its okay, because it does thin out the crowds. that doesnt it make it okay. this xxxxx is fleshin' up. if a spot is too crowded for your whiny egotistical ass, go find another one. stop being a fleshin' kook bitch, thinking you have the right to determine who surfs a part of the ocean and who doesnt. your not a god, your a stupid little human. shut ur fleshin' mouth, enjoy the surf, have a good time, and spread GOOD vibes, not bad vibes. everyones just tryin to live and surf.

oh and if anyway here likes Flea( professional santa cruz surfer) dont because he is the biggest dick i have ever met in the water. he literally talks as much xxxxx as he can to whoever he can.

god dam i hate humanity sometimes.

go ahead post stories, vent, just get it out

It is a part of the sport....there is a limited amount of waves most days and a surplus of surfers. Some spots are dominated by a pack of locals, I am not condoning their actions, they are just doing what comes natural to the alpha types. I have surfed some spots that are that way, you just have to work the crowd as best you can.
My advice is to either paddle deeper than the next guy, or surf somewhere else. You are fighting an age old battle that is not going away.

...The ocean is a female force, we surfers are all vying for her attention.

I never tried this but i have heard its quite effective.

When you paddle out start screaming and swearing at the waves and acting like a complete lunatic. Dont direct that at anyone personally though. From what someone told me everyone gives you an emmensly wide berth. Althought the downside is you look like a complete moron.

hey there ain't nothing wrong with lookin' like a complete moron. Who gives a (beep) anyway! I hear ya on the whole localism bs though, i would go to the same place to surf all the time, but it got way too crowded, so i adapted, i found a place where i don't have to be all crowded in and my friends and I go there and have a good time, to be honest with you anymore, I'd rather surf a slightly smaller wave than deal with all that bs, not because i can't hold my own, but for the simple fact that it's not fun when your surrounded by 8 guys who are all paddling for the same wave you are. F that! Don't get frustrated, i know its easy....ADAPT. Crowds can't be everywhere, just takes a little exploring! Cheers & good luck finding your new spot!

It works like a charm.....but you get punched once in a while. I have a friend who is a lunatic, he does scream at people for little to no reason, he has a wild look all the time, and will snake you wave and yell at you while doing it.

He clears room every time I see him paddle...and get punched several times a year :D

That was you??????

I will take crappy waves with good company over great waves with surfers that think their poop doesn't stink any day.

@STS
Feel better now? It's good to talk. Venting is what prevents destructive explosions, so keep it coming on the forum where its safe.
Now go ride those waves and ignore the a**holes.

hawaiiSUCKSexceptsurf wrote:assheads

Hehehe, that's a new one for me.

Second off:

When I was in SD I was impressed with how nice everyone was, and I feel like I was surfing like an idiot (ask isaluteyou)

I'm not disagreeing or saying it's over talked. Just saying

Localism is indeed a problem nowadays. That is what I really noticed from Americans and Aussies who surf here in the Philippines. They seem to appreciate it a lot that localism isn't happening in almost all spots here.
Although I heard it exists in the northern area of the Philippines.

Guys, personally i think localism is needed in some spots. Think about this: A random guy comes into YOUR house, starts eating YOUR food, and starts hitting on YOUR chick. What are you honestly going to do? You are going to beat the living crap outa him right? I know i would atleast tell him to @#$% off and boot kick him out

Seriously, cut the locals some slack. They are the ones that spend weeks, even months waiting for the perfect waves to rock up, and they are the ones that pay the government to live there, and when some idiot from country zol comes and takes all the waves, then the locals are obviously going to hate the rest of the foreiners forever

I think this whole localism thing started because some douche bag from some other place snaked and dropped in on the locals, leading to the locals forming a group and murdering every foreiner that comes to surf their home break. But truth to be told, localism shouldnt be so violent. Just tune the dude to piss off, and tell him he can only surf once he has respect for the locals

So in a way, Im for localism. Sorry

Um, a wave is not anything like your house, food, or chick. I'll defend my home, maybe my food, and my friends, but waves?? A wave is not on my list of "Things to get mean about".

Here in Hawaii the localism sucks. A few months ago I was at the beginner break in Waikiki with two friends, and some big ugly stand up paddle guy starts yelling at us and waving his paddle like he's gonna hit someone, and telling us to get out of there. He basically offered to beat us up and break our boards...at a beginners' beachbreak!

Lamest part, he yelled at us to "Go back to wherever the eff we came from". I was like, my house? The beach? Where does this guy assume that I came from?!

try being on the gulf side of florida where you can count the swells one two hands.
there are literally 6 surfers per wave paddling. and maybe 100 plus on a beach thats literally not even a mile long with 2 places where waves break
so everyone paddles for everything. of course longboarders win this competition but when i do catch a wave hes already scrathin for it.looks at me.and keeps goin after directly catching 2 back to back waves,i bail.he comes over yelling at me giving me loads of sh*t for bailing and saying you can have it.it was rediculous as he later ran into another kid
i wanted to kill him

Ok, then go ahead and be all "localish" to the guy who dropped in on and snaked on you. But cut some slack for people who wait their turn and show some respect to whoever is around you or me.
