Hey, I decided not to put this in the begginers section cos i didnt want replys from fellow begginers i wanted them from more experienced surfers! Anyway I have bodyboarding for a year now and have only surfed once, in Bude, Cornwall. I was wondering if you guys could give me any tips or anything, I wanna get a board and start surfing more regularly, I am near a Beach with inconsistent but sometimes good surf so I have to local prob as I no loads peps down there from my bodyboarding days! Anyway and tips, what board I should get, wetsuit, paddling out, duckdiving, anything really that will help me get started properly surfing!
Thanks everyone!
P.S. If anyone can explain the problem with begginers please do, I have read all about surf etiquette so if you live on the South Coast. dont worry!

First off.... the experience surfers go ever where on this site posting our opinions but its no problem.
You should pick a up a 2mm or 3/2 wetsuit but you dont need it right now. You probably are going to want to rent a softtop or foam board for a week or so. After you do that...
What board are you looking for... long or short?

ok try a 6'8" fish (plenty of volume and easier to learn on then a regular short). umm otherwise i have nothing else really to say... go skim through some other pages in the begginer section about boards.

Yeh, totally agreed with namino tsume. Fish's are a perfect all round board for beginners like yourself and more experienced surfers, they are one of the few boards that doesnt really have a specific 'entry level', you can usually ride one whatever your standard.
Best thing you can do after getting advice from this site, is to whizz down to your nearest 'surf' shop, and I mean surfshops that actually sell surfboards; not just in it for the clothes and commercial side of it. Also make sure your talking to a surfer when your getting the advice, some surf shop assistants are unfortuantly only in it for the penguin-cool image of it all.
I'm not sure about the custom/pop out. I think you'l be recommended the pop-out option, but customs can be equally as good, and a lot lighter. What do you other guys think??
Oooohh the lovely south coast, ive personally never ventured up north in seach of surf, so I cant really help you on that one, although ive heard you can surf Bournemouth and it's pretty okay? Dont know how true that is though dude, so somebody'l have to clarify that one.
Anyway, hope my rambles helped, and just get out there and surf.

Here is a good link for duck diving, paddling out, etc instructions. Might want to try out a funboard as the first addition to your "quiver"...
