Hey - I'm bored at work sitting in my little grey cubicle and would much rather be surfing right now. Just thought I would share that with the rest of you because I am extremely bored right now and trying to pass the time until 5:00.

Ok, so any tips for a beginner surfer - been surfing a few months - on getting out past the breaking waves an into the line-up? have been doing fine mostly, but hurricane season is kickin in here in new england, and the waves are getting bigger, harder to paddle through. is there a trick to it? or just paddle like hell and pray you don't get tired?

umm there are some tricks, like wait for a lull. if you have double overhead waves, your not gonna get out there for ages if you just go paddling out. wade out as far as you can with out being pushed back in towards shore, wait for the waves to get smaller (a lull) then padlle like hell to get out there before the next set. if you do get caught out in the impact zone when a set comes in, paddle, paddle, paddle, and duckdive. also if you notice a spot where the waves are breaking further in kinda like

------- ----------------- /////// ----------------
/////////////--- ---
0 ////////////// ----------------------
where the - represents the breeaking wave and 0 represents you and / represents your path. then go out as far as you can to the left of the part that breaks closer in then paddle diaglonly out over the wave breaking towards shore. (sry if this was confussing)

ps. where do you surf. i am in NE too. i am in CT but i surf narragansett RI

Thanks for the tips, definately does help - the whole diagnal thing. don't think duck diving with my 7'9" bic is an option though. went out last weekend and got hammered, lol. don't worry though, i make sure and stay outta everyone's way - go where it isn't crowded. i definately don't get out there as often as i would like, so of course my progression is coming slow. i live in a suburb of boston, and mostly surf in new hamshire, seabrook beach and jennes - less crowded than the wall. the people over at zapstix are very helpful/friendly. i am just out there to have fun, i know i will never be like really good - and thats fine. at this point i just wanna have fun. :D

you live in a suburb of boston.... im moving there in a few years... probably to plymoth or somewhere around there. know any good decent spots near plymoth?

i live on the south shore. not sure i would be the one to tell ya where a "good" spot would be at, cause i am still very much a beginner, to me a nice surfable 2foot wave is good :D i pretty much keep myself in nh - with some nice fun little waves (hence my name)
