Hi everyone

Was wondering how people who need glasses/contacts see well when in the water? I lose my contacts after about 5 mins. Not to sure if i want to be seen in the line up with goggles

I use contacts often - and I just shut my eyes underwater. I've never had a problem with them coming out.

Me too, wear daily disposables and just shut my eyes when I need to, never been a problem.

How about Laser surgery ??? I can't realy help I have great vision, but my wife goes out with no contacs or glasses !!!??? How she does it on her own hmm?????? If I'm there I'm her red tip cane and seeing eye dog to tell her to paddle. HA HA I just feel sorry for anybody in front of her, she can't turn well and can't see the people she is about to run over !!!!
She says she likes not being able to see so when there is a shark in the water she won't know. HA HA

^dude, that's nuts. she's got balls. without my contacts i can't see shite. i wouldn't tell if a wave is coming or if it's the sky falling. i noticed my one contact gets blurry sometimes, even when i keep my eyes closed. but then it goes away. it's odd. maybe it's because i have toric lenses and they get all out of whack sometimes. i just keep my eyes closed underwater and it's all good

Yep i also surf with daily disposables and have had no problems so far....

thats what i do... cept i dont have disposables.. mine is monthly things.. .,ughhhhhhhhhhh .. i mean from time to time i get whacked in my eyes by a wave and one ends up falling out or something .. but ive never had much trouble

Believe me .... I think it's quite possibly a 8th wonder of the world type thing... I'm scared shizzless most of the time cause I'm gonna have a throw down with somebody scrapen them to bits due because she ran sombody over and the fight begins and well i ain't gonna get hurt and ain't about to let my wife get slamed or... watch some outher kind of hell unfold !!!! But alas she has miracuosly stered corectly and gone down the line from day two ( mind you I just started her this is only gonna be number 4 the next time we go out) I literly kinda think it's that extra sence thing or God trully does take care of children,drunks and fools. She realy feels the wave,hight,direction,speed etc. and can tell blobs in the way and some how can steer around them. NOT that I recomending not to wear glasses or contacts i still feel she needs to wear them. I tell her to wear glasses with a leash or something but get the vision and save my premature heart failure from occuring!!! she won't do the laser thing so I can't blame anybody for not doing it!! All I can say is I wish and hope the best for anybody who needs corective vision and all the best with the answer. Please let me know your solutions so I'll be able to pass em on to the wife.

It's funny, when I first started wearing contacts for surfing, it all turned to crap for a few sessions, I was so used to not seeing the wave properly, or knowing what it was doing a bit further down the line that my timing ended up being all out of whack. Although I definitely ended up paddling into less closeouts after a while.

You should try this stuff called Natures Tears EyeMist. You can use it with or without your contacts in. It's just a mist, but it moisturizes your eye and contacts so all is good and there wont be any more blur. It also helps reduce the risk of pterygium, or "surfers eye". You can buy it for pretty cheap off of Amazon.com... or buy it in CVS pharmacies

I wear contact lenses. They're the toric kind, so whenever I rub the back of my eyelids to get the saltwater out, I can't see for about 15 blinks. Its a pain in the ass but better than not being able to see!

I've worn contacts for 15 years (scared of lasers pointed at my EYES while I'm AWAKE!!), and I've lost one while surfing only 2 times that I can remember, and probably 4 times or so while swimming. In 15 years. Oh, and a bunch of times I've "dislodged" my contact from rubbing water outta my eyes. That sucks. It gets stuck up under your eyelid...yick! But at least its still there. Sometimes I try to fix it while I'm out there, but usually I end up paddling as fast as I can for shore and a mirror.

I surf, wakeboard, swim, etc. with my contacts, it would be a bad thing if I didn't... I'd hit so much stuff. Just close your eyes when you hit/go under, and its not a problem. I wear permanent Gas-Permiable lenses, so replacing them is a *****, you just learn to keep your eyes shut! (Actually, I've never lost one in the water... sink drains are worse for me :-/ )

doesn't your contact fall off let's say you wipeout on a double head high set? any of you have experience with this

Well, its going to be quite some time before I venture into double overheads... (much less find any... *curse you patchy east coast swell!*) But, I have done face plants off 8-10 feet of air on a wakeboard moving 21mph, and been fine... At least for me its become intuitive -- close your eyes before impact. (The only problem I could see is going down on the first wave of a set, coming up, and getting hammered by the second... but then again, you might have other things to worry about than your contacts if that were the case!

When I swim with my lenses in the water I can use a basis delicate lenses to fix your eyes causing huge bothering.
