Surfing Waves

Does anyone know of any surf movies or what not?
I found this one online if anyone wants to see it; it's more like a documentry but it's really good. History and all

'step into liquid,' the classic 'the endless summer' (i just watched it last night for some reason), 'the endless summer II.' 'surf's up' is kind of a surf movie, i mean it's animated and has penguins. but rob machado and kelly slater are in it as quasi-narrators. i liked 'free as a dog,' with parko, directed by jack mccoy.

I think I watch "The September Sessions" like once a week or two. haha. I love that movie. Most of the "Drive Through ........ " series are pretty cool. Just watched Drive Through Australia recently.. that was good. "Trilogy" is good.. "Young Guns 3" also good.

Im going to pick up "Stranger Than Fiction" today after work for the weekend.. I keep hearing it's a good new surf film, but still haven't seen it.

Im also stoked about Machado's new film comin out; "The Drifter." I'll be buying that one when it hits the shelf.

Young Guns 2 and 3 are pretty good. I am really waiting for Just Add Water from Clay Marzo should be coming out in October I think.

So.. picked up Stranger Than Fiction today.. I have now watched half of it and I have to say.. its rad. hah. Im loving it. If you aren't the type of surfer that likes the crazy flips and all the new stuff people are busting these days... this film might not be for you. However, if that stuff pumps you up; this movie has a bunch of it. Very fun to watch and quite a comical film as well. All in all, so far so good. I have to get on the road right now, so Ill have to finish the rest of the movie later.. but figured I'd give my 2 cents while Im here.

All those mentioned are good. There are a bunch more I can't remember that are pretty good. I want to see A California Day but I can't find anywhere to download oops I mean buy it.

I wish they would make a movie on just normal surfers. Not barneys but decent surfers that don't necessarily have the luxury of surfing every day nor the sponsorship to surf isolated breaks in Fiji. Just a movie of the average joe. That would be kinda cool.

I agree that the Drive Thu films are good, but don't waste your time with Step into Liquid, biggest pile of pap ever made!

^ why do you say that? it is a bit jumpy and kind of random at points, but i thought it was interesting. it's not exactly going to get you stoked to go charge or anything, it's more about the life of surfers. and do you surf in aberdeen, like at the beach or anything? i was there in the spring and it looked like there was potential for some fun waves...just really cold

I've criticised this film before on here and it's not because it's different stories of surfers all put together but what some of those articles are about that really left me feeling like I'd had some of my life stolen which I could never get back. It's a while since I watched it (and I really don't want to watch it again to remember all the dross) but some bad bits that stick out were the bloke who has surfed everyday for X years just to say he had, a father and son pair who go back to Vietnam to surf waves his dad saw during the war and don't find any, (yeah we've all not found waves but we don't call it a success and make it into a film) and a really annoying Jamaican.
The oil tankers were cool though.

Yes I do live in Aberdeen (Scotland) and surf at the beach here and places around. And yes the North Sea is very cold and I've never got used to it.

^ yeah, there are some really weak parts in it. the ones you mentioned stick out the most for me too. oh well. i guess i'd recommend 'sprout' too, i haven't watched all of it, but the 'shaka-ttack' and other shaka variations are hilarious.

Worth watching all the way through - big wave surf legends and some old colour footage of surfers' life and the first towins with a - well, have a look, it's one hour forty and very informative.

one thing I do wish someone would do is make a surf film where they actually show the surfers paddling and getting to their feet... I would love to have such a useful resource for checking how and when people pop up on all sorts of interesting waves.
at the moment you normally just see the ride.

^ Really? As far as I can remember, the takeoff is almost always part of the footage. In fact I’m sure of it. Because when its waves about the size I ride, I’ll pause and slo-mo the takeoff to study the surfer’s style.

normally more in to the documentary style, but "puddles in the sky" hasn't been mentioned and definitely worth a look. great sountrack, and locations.
don't think any of the surfers are big names as such, but then i never really follow surfers... they're bloody good tho.

I watched one called Latin Guns that one of my Puertorican mates gave me to look at. The music is cool, spanish reggea, and some of the spots are remote.
