Do any of you guys get light spotting or discoloration on your faces? Seems to be most common among people who have darker skin to begin with. What do you do about it?
Growing up I used to get them pretty badly. My mom took me to a physician (don’t recall if she was a full on dermatologist) and I got prescribed Diprolene – according to a google search, “a synthetic cortisone-like steroid available in cream, gel, lotion, or ointment form, is used to treat certain itchy rashes and other inflammatory skin conditions” – and that really took care of it. Right now though, the spotting is only very slight.

i try to use some sort of heavy zinc based sun protection for my face, especially when i have 9-11, then 11-1 surf lessons. the other instructors and i, by recommendation of our boss, use desitin. it's baby diaper rash cream, but it's 40% zinc oxide, smells like baby, stays on all day (as long as you don't wipe your face with your hands), and then leaves your face baby butt smooth afterwards

twerked, can you elaborate on this desitin? Use that instead of the Banana Boat cheapo sunscreen then? Is it that white stuff I see on surf school instructors' faces?

yeah, it's basically just a thick cream with lots of zinc oxide for good sun protection. it's either the same thing or some other zinc oxide product that the other instructors that you see have on their faces. i just put it on my nose, and below my eyes/lower eye socket/upper cheek area, and a tiny bit on the lips. there is a lot of cod liver oil in it, so on the lips it can be kind of gnarly, but works really well.

yep, zinc oxide sunblock is the best for surfer. it is insoluble and won't dissolve away unless you slap your face with it.

Yepserini..( Desitin ) diaper rash cream gooood shiz good amount of zinc and cream is made not to just come off with diaper/urin/water on babies. Used to get those more so when I was a kid and remember my mom putting that crud on my face while water skiing. Try putting it only on the spots of concern that's what I'll do now if I start to see a sun spot coming.
