World record attempt down the road from me ….. :D

- ON THE 13TH SEPTEMBER 2008, on Swansea Bay, an international gathering of surfers will participate in what is hoped will be the largest surfers’ chain ever officially formed and recorded, with the aim of setting a NEW WORLD RECORD. The event will be fittingly concluded with a Surfers’ Ball at the prestigious Brangwyn Hall in the evening. We aim to achieve the record with around 1,000 participants. With over 670 surfers now signed up for the event, we are hopeful that this target can be achieved, but we still need more! If you would like to participate, please visit our ( their ) website at  http://www.surferchain.com for full details and participation criteria. - Jay Doyle -

Registration is £5.00 to cover insurances and stuff, have a look …….

The site is not a flourishing forum, but you can get the reg. forms and be part of a good day for the UK.

Well - I arrived, registered and paid, sat on the beach in glorious sunshine watching a cloudy sky pass and the rays land on Swansea Bay !

Divine intervention ? who gives a crap – it was sunny !

The gathered surfers entered the sea in two waves– Green wrist bands and blue wrist bands formed a semicircle off shore first, then the red and yellow wrist bands were ordered into the sea to complete the circle.

I took my reeeely short short board on the bus to get there, and all you could see of me was from my nipples up, with my arms raised, holding hands with a girl on my left and a young boy on my right.

A raised green flag meant to hold hands – long enough for the Guinness Officials to okay the world record surfers chain.

A numpty fell of his board on two attempts ! he just wanted the attention. Marshals soon paddle boarded over to sit by this moron, either to help him or boot out of the record attempt.

Well, on the third try hands were held and the circle completed for enough time to allow the First Surfers Chain World Record to be set.

So (and this applies to all those who were in the circle) we had all bothered to turn up and contribute to the sport, and we will always be the bunch who set the first official surfers chain world record.

I will always be a member of the first world record surfers chain !

^ lol : yeah, I went in in a pair of shorts and a printed nylon tee shirt !

Cold at first, but within minutes the water seemed fine - I even stayed in the warmer (felt reeeally cold before !) shallows after we paddled back in.

There was an accident on the entry road so some people were late arriving, I guess he was one !

I don't know who attended, but there may have been some big names - I'll try to find out more!.

Cool, thanks for the post.

( 7mis on - I’m the one with my back to the camera (lol), almost inline with the two red buoys, low in the water with white writing on my black nylon tee shirt - I wave at the horizon and clap – you can see my bare arms bottom left towards the end – thanks for looking  !)

OMG ! 2009 World Record Surfers Chain Attempt !!!!!!

A year has gone by already !

I'm eating my food then I am off to once again attend the Surfers Chain World Record Attempt in Swansea Bay.
I won't be in a wetsuit as I was okay last year and at the moment it's quite warm outside for Wales ! - and I'm on the bus so I can't carry too much or they might not let me on !

Wish us all luck - I'll post as soon as I get back in (ahem !) :woot:

Okay - Back in after a very nice day at Swansea Bay.
An excellent live band were banging tunes out, there were far more attractions than last year and there was a round of the National SUP competition - 6 miles paddling a SUP for the win !

The water was warm - really warm, especially compared to the rest of the beaches - I guess because there is such a huge tide, the sand heats the water up as it comes in.
It was warm earlier and is warm now – so that explains the water temperature then !

No surf in this sheltered bay, although I have actually surfed Swansea bay – once.

There seemed less people than in 2008 – but I haven’t been able to find any pics on the ‘net so far of the outcome.
I reckon the pics will soon appear – most folk have gone to the after event club in the city centre – I had to catch a bus home ! (didn’t fancy clubbing all night with my ultra short carbon fiber surf board as the main attraction !).

So just to inform you guys – Wales is doing its bit for surfing and the record books with this now regular surfer’s chain world record attempt.

If you want to be a world record holder, get here for next year – I’m sure it will be even better than this one.
