Surfing Waves

By all accounts it will be finished by the end of october! Alledgedly!

There is however the biggest piles of sand ive ever seen on the beach at the moment, im currenty considering popping down with my snowboard for some dune boarding action!

The great thing about this reef is because of where they've positioned it 250m out with no wind protection at all as its far enough away from the lull provided by the cliffs and the piers its going to be awesome for kitesurfing on.
Most of the surf we get here on the south coast is storm/wind swell and the piers are the only thing that offer protection from the wind and even then the tidal rip up the beach makes it hard to keep position. After the 250m paddle its gonna be damn hard to keep position on that exposed reef out there.
So i wonder who's gonna get the most use out of this reef????????????

Yep totally agree with you on that one KS, to far out. The life guards will love all the swimmers and kooks trying to reach it in the warmer weather if it is working. As for the sand WOW, mountains. Where did it come from, have they been dredging around the piers ?. I hope not.

Not quite. Thers one that points at the pier but not the reef. I guess they'll move it once the reef is built.

Yeahh its a shame there's no wind protection, it's so rare for us to get a good groundswell with offshore wind that if it happens it'll just be a sea of people..

So, my nearest beach with any hint of surf is probably Bournemouth, but I haven't been there since I went canoe 'surfing' about 20 years ago. Can someone in the know tell me if it's even worth me taking my board down there in the next few weeks? I'm a beginner so don't need anything huge, but equally don't want to find myself crashing onto rocks!

You should do there's been wind swell pretty most days for the last 2 weeks. Nothing there today though.

What conditions get it going there then? According to the forecast, there's an 18mph West South Westerly wind there at the moment...

Sorted surf shop have a webcam although you need to register with an email address to get a code to allow you to see the webcams. This will give you a good idea of when it works and when it doesn't in relation to the forecasts.
Current wind in the solent is 20knots sw but around poole bournemouth its closer to 10knots.

Would have been realy nice boys had you bothered finishing the one your working on here first!! and that one sux at the moment.

Dont expect this to be anything other than a nice marine feature for wildlife.

I still think a few barges sunk out there would do a better job.

As appealing as that sounds we are in fact having the windiest summer ever here and the kitesurfing has been epic. Ive been getting out at 4 times a week, quite often with nice waves too. Tuesday was especially good with cross off shore winds resulting in clean head high waves allowing awesome down the line wave riding.
No need for me to go anywhere at the mo, but thanks for the offer.
