Found this article doing the rounds online at present.
Very interesting!
Looks like the story made front page of the paper today
TENSIONS between local and Brazilian surfers threaten to reach boiling point, with reports of heated arguments at surfing breaks and even a knife incident.

Interesting read. Crazy how some get no hassel at all then some get hassled. My bet is the ones that get hassled are dropping in and trying to be wave hogs and the locals are not going to have it. The ones that don't drop in and respect the lineup are fine. Don't go messing with the locals.

definitely respect the locals... in fact respect everyone out there far too dangerous a place not to follow the rules..
thankfully nothing much like that goes on over here... worst i've experienced so far is snide comments but easily ignored...

Younger generation?
A Californian surfer said he was abused by a group of men aged in their 40s to 60s after he was mistaken for a Brazilian at Duranbah early this month.
You must be well old Milo

Respect, and be respected. As for the violence, it is quiet sad, but I guess it will never stop...
