depnds on swell size and direction not forgeting to factor in wind and tides. Cmon pinning it down to one is dumb its alos personal preference steep and hollow vs thick and wedgy. Shortboard vs longboard etc etc...
Other than that everyone elses comments are spot on

Well reef,
You really haven't hepled yourself. Are you experienced? Longboard? Kneel board? What?
The south swell season is in San Diego area is from June to October. The classis example is Trestles which is the stretch of coast immediately north of San Onofre. In San Diego, the south swell spots are Coronado, Windansea and Blacks. Working north, the usual suspects are Swamis, Oceanside, Trestles, the Wedge in Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, and Malibu. Santa Barbara has Rincon, El Capitan and Hollister Ranch. The best thing about San Diego is there is something like 110 surf spots.
Good luck!

big sharks... and continuously blown over waves... but the beers great and the women can strip paint off of cars from a 100 paces.. seriously they are vicious with pointy teeth and claws.
also the way the economy is going at the moment we could really do with the cash so bring lots of money!!! it won't go far....
