Hi all,

Just wanted to say that I had an amazing week in North Devon last week! Unsure where to get in first I started at Saunton had the ride of my life and pretty much stayed there!

Having never surfed there before I was amazed at the quality of the wave and the length of the ride!!! I got my best rides on the Sunday, just about used to getting out back now. Paddled straight out, and took off on a right that just kept going and going.
Found the people in the water to be sharing and friendly what more can you ask for!

I surfed most other days and had a great session on the Thursday evening too. Whilst not as clean and sizey as the Sunday still got incredibly long rides.

I usually surf East Coast, Scarborough area which I love too, but this area just had a completely different feel to it. Waves seem to go on for ever!

Also got a wicked DVD from Tiki called 'State of play' a lot of which is filmed around there.

Must say a big 'Thanks' to 'Surfed Out' at Saunton, great guys there, even though I took my own board, I used a 9'6 Local Hero board which was well suited to that break to say the least.

Stoked! 8)

Saunton is a big fat slow pile of poo, I hate the place, and its a well known fact that Croyde is best at LOW tide. but as Libby says, anytime from Easter to the end of September they're rammed and you'll find yourself fighting for a wave with chavs on holiday.

However, what's important is that YOU had a great time. :)

Croyde at low tide maybe best for YOU  ,I personaly find it to fast, hollow and heavy for a long board.a couple of hours before high tide normally gives a good, longish mellow ride. imo of coarse

Saunton a pile of poo.....mmmmmmm ok.

as for easter to sept, you've just gotta get up early and out late,6ish for the mornin and 6ish in the evenin always works out ok.

love the place 8)

Well, each to their own eh?

I personally found it to be spot on for me, slow to build, slow to break, long walls. Croyde looked great too apart from one thing...well actually 100 things, 100 people per good wave lol!

Not an expert but I guess it's more of a short board wave whearas Saunton was great for my board (7'6 carpet).

As for crowds where isn't these days? Unless you're fortunate enough to own 'cloudbreak'!

I'm an early riser on holiday, had some great 5am sesh's!

100% with bluyan on this one!

I'd just like to say that I had an awesome time in Derbyshire last week :D . Stayed in Castleton and walked alot, rode a horse, went to Alton Towers(first time) and was bloody lucky with the weather - seemed more like the south of France, 29 degs C at 19:30 just came down from Kinder Scout/Jacobs Ladder - stoked!

Oh and personally I also hate Saunton, its too slow and weak for me, and low tide Croyde rocks(apart from the crowds) for me but its good that you like Saunton and each to their own, horses for courses and all that. :)
