Surfing Waves

this weekend im takin my gf to Venice Beach cuz shes got some photo thing. i was wondering if its open to surfing by the boardwalk or do i hafta go to santa monica...is the surf worth it or is it flat?

Venice sucks, Santa Monica sucks. You might get lucky and find some on either side of the pier at Venice. I don't think they Black Ball it this time of the year. If you can take a bit of a drive, Malibu is about half hour drive up the PCH in a northerly direction.

Its like a free circus there,alot of old sckool bozo doing odd xxxxx on the boaed walk,go for a real eye openner.

hmm. i've surfed venice pier and the jetty several times. if the waves are over a few feet it'll close out bad which can be really frustrating. if its a smaller day north side of pier can be pretty fun. and from what i know pretty much all along the beach is open to surfing.
