On behalf of all the regular So Cal surfers who surf San O, on behalf of all the unborn generations of surfers who will surf San O, one helluva big thank you to the folks who supported the petition!
The California Coastal Commission shot down the proposed extension of Hwy 241 Toll Road, which would have destroyed the last pristine vestiges of So Cal coastline by a vote of 8 nay 2 aye!
Truly a glorious victory for the citizens of the world! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

I was wondering how that went.
I wanted to go down to the coastal commission meeting, but I got a call to work instead, and with my current finances, work holds top priority right now.

It's nice to know that something can still be done to stop this sort of thing. Great news.

Apparently there were thousands of people to show up at the meeting to voice their opinions.

Thanks folks! Over 3,000 attended the largest California Coastal Commission meeting ever held!
I'm so overjoyed about this turn of events, it was looking bad for awhile especially after the Governator endorsed the road. Here's a link to the San Diego Union Tribune article about the meeting;

Probably unrealistic, but I sure hope every surfer gets a chance to visit San O at least once in their lifetimes. It will be a day they will NEVER forget!

Yeah what a great victory. You all out there did a great job of getting the word out. I think out of all the surfing bulletin boards I saw a link for the petition on each of them. I'm tickled it is saved.

Milo,
For cheap place to stay down in San Diego, try the Banana Bungalow. Right on the strand at Pacific Beach. Rundown, but cheap.

Unfortunately, the City Council just passed an ordinance eliminating drinking on the beach, so the guy with the beer in his hand would like be busted nowadays...
San O would be about an hours drive to the north right up 5. Get off on Basilone Rd. turn left and follow the signs.
