nah seas not too bad again this year about 2degrees above what it used to be at 8C

i'm pretty gutted, i've been waiting for waves for ages, and now i decide to go home and theres waves that weekend!!! its a load of bull

cold then. i can surf without a hood here in wales

water is pretty cold, a lot colder than in wales but not as cold as i thought, although i am wearing all the gear

It will be bad this wkend, -degrees daytime air temp.

First real cold blast with surf this winter, most of the time its been silly mild for up here.

Ayeup N.S, how's it going? Agree about the temp. not needed a hood up there so far winter last year/this year feels more like spring! Got my dad's 60th this weekend else I'd be there for sure!
Went two South coast last week...gash! Drove to Cornwall...better, just about 100 people per wave! Portugal March 1st!

how long can you last without a hood or rash vest under your suit on the east coast?

got gloves and boots but none of the above

I don't use a rashie at all, use a warm wetsuit, 6/5/4 Gul Vortex. I never used to have a hood, but I would get one for at least Dec/Jan/Feb. This year I havn't needed it as much still good to have incase!
First time I ever surfed was in January (around 5 years ago now), got in with no gloves or hood...bad mistake! Nearly froze to death!

cheers for the reply, i have a oneil 5/3 and 7mm boots coz my feet get proper cold!

i tend to generate quite a bit of heat due to the amount of paddling/thrashing in the water i do coz im still a noob lol!

might just risk it without a hood (bit skint!)

i have a 6/5/4 xcel and wear the boots and gloves, but pull the hood over my head because i sweat too much

Ive been surfing in Febuary, with no hood, just had gloves, 5-4-3mm suit and 3mm boots, wasnt too bad !!

Getting very giddy now, 16ft lined up swell looks to be hitting by late Fri into Sat. Might have to hit a wrap around spot for something a bit smaller. Best Swell prospects of this winter so far and there have already been a few epic ones. WooHoo

And I'm not here!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't believe it, i could see an awesome swell starting from the weekend, and it just keeps getting better...how ****!! i might try and get in tomorrow for a quick session if there's any little waves around though.

Unless your talking in hawaiian sizes, 16ft isn't that bad, I'll surf it anytime, as long as it is really predictable, no beachbreak or reef xxxxx, it has to be a predictable point, I don't want to be caught inside in that stuff.

Plus don't hit it when the waves are real steep, and when there is no chop in miles.

the waves won't be 16ft just the swell. waves should be pretty big though, strong offshores up here to. can't believe i am going to miss this!!

It'll be triple o/h at the big wave spots. Whats that 6ft hawaiin?


The Fafanator how is a reef not predictable?

don't think it will be so big up here, but should be pretty big! about double overhead i think. reef and points are predictable...but beaches aren't so much always
