Looks like he is having a tough time in some real small surf. Hopefully he does not give up on it.

Cool, Looked like he was having fun. I mean he at least is catching the waves. Next the pop-up.

He did get a up and down.

Aw bless!
Looks like perfect learning conditions! Apart from the bitterly cold water obviously!
He was almost there - a little tweaking and he'll soon be ripping it up!
Do you remember that 'what would you call your dog?' thread?
Im gonna call mine 'Paddle' so I can stand in the park shouting 'Paddle... Paddle Paddle Paddle!'

Things not to do;
Grabbing the rails
Going to your knees before your feet.
Looks like positioning on the board could be improved as well, the nose is way to high out of the water, it needs to plane across the water. Good luck, keep it up, you'll get there.

hey man, it's better than my first time surfing... i remember i was not fully recovered from my flu, and i couldn't even stay balanced when just lying on the board... but i did eventually grasp some tricks to stay balance on the board...
your brother's paddling looks like some bird gonna drown flapping the water, didn't dig deep...
