I've finally got around to it.

You can blame Bill Gates (X64 doesn't run my PC suite for my phone) and my laziness for the delay.

It all started a bit like this:

First sight of the island wasn't all that appealing:

The coach ride to Corralejo

The resort was nice:

Next day we explored the town:

and rented a car.

Drove to the beach:

Image

The photos a bit deceptive, the wave was a decent surfable size, and while it was a beach, the break was caused in a few places by huge acres of underwater rock, sort of mini reefs so it was nice and predicable.

The evening started a little bit like this:

And ended up here:

Image

The next morning was a late one, hangover powered!

Full English breakfast at a cafe here:

When i spotted this cheeky fellow:

Nice.

Anyway, we were told the best surf was on the north shore, so off we drove:

Image

Unfortunately we ended up on a rally track:

Image

The result being something like this:

BUT WE FOUND THIS!!!! :D

Image

HOORAY!!!

Then disaster strikes!!!
WHEN REEFS ATTACK!!!!!

Image

I scraped up all down my right hand side on a close encounter with some black Lava reef. Weeks later I'm still scarred!

Cue a quick trip to the local surf shop to replace a shredded set of board shorts:

Strange van painted like a house:

Some italians we got drunk with:

And finally.....

That big plane home. :(

And all for the bargin price of £190, flights, accomodation and transfers thanks to the joys of Internet shopping.

I'm arranging another trip at the end of feb if you're interested Rev, although I may not come back from that one, I got offered a job while I was out there and I'm seriously considering it!

That'll be Fuert..

hah brings back few memories for sure. Laughed loads when your man on the bus was giving it some large in the vid. :D

There's nothing unfortunate about the north Track. Thats the best part of the island!! :D Abusing the rentals down the entire length from Corejjeco, all the way past El Cotilo to the slabs at the end. tis ace!

Did you get to the south of the island at all? endless gems like this if your up for the 8mile drive on dirt and rocks :D

IT, working in the ex-pat community.

No dude, I didn't get down to the south part of the island, while I was there the surf was really kicking off at the north end of the island, there was no need for a long arse drive.

The only break I would have liked to have surfed but didn't was playa isla los lobos, i hear it's fantastic although most of the stuff I was trying to surf was a bit beyond my skill level, and los lobos catches some monster swell compared to, say, the north of the harbour wall at Corralejo.

i need to go somewhere with warm water.. i cannot imagine what it feels like to lay in warm beach water.. it just doesn't make sense to me. was the water warm where you were at?

yeah man! I was expecting it to be colder given it was the Atlantic, I started off in a wettie and ended up surfing in Boardies. I don't know if it was me, but the water seemed warmer on the east coast than the west, but I guess that would make sense.
