North Devon consistency from April to November

Could you give me an idea of how consistent the surf is around the west coasts (I was thinking north Devon). I will be coming to the UK for 6 months or so from April. How often do you get say head high + surf & light winds or is this super rare in this time of year? I guess the summer will be flat but not too bothered about that, just would be nice to get some surfing in some decent waves some of the time.... thanks!

Thats three different times of year for north devon...

April 'til May - you should be okay, fairly consistent, but water will still be chilly. You'll not often see headhigh with offshore, but it'll happen now and again, and at the right spot.

June 'til beginning of september - ooooh, dodgy... you might get swell, but there'll be long flat spells too. There'll more often than not be some kind of swell, but waist high kinda stuff.

September through to November - woohoo, now you're talking. Water is still warm (ish. Relatively speaking) but you're getting hurricane swells now, and thats about the highest quality waves you'll get in the UK (by which I mean the quality/period of the groundswell, not necessarily quality wave). By the time you get to november, you're getting winter swells and its all down to the wind.
