Talking to your board - normal?

Postby Catastrophe » Sat Dec 15, 2007 8:24 pm

Hi all,

Today I found myself out in the water all on my own, not only had I gone out alone, but not a single person was in the water, whoohoo.

But anyway, I found being on my own lead to a rather strange phenomenon. I began talking to my board and not just "Ahh I could have done better on that wave" stuff but really talking to it, like "We will skip that wave, the next one looks to be far sweeter" complimenting her on a good performance, "discussing" the best way to get back out-back and so-on.

But the really weird thing; I found it really helped my overall performance, I felt more prepared for my waves with much better positioning, so the real question is if it makes me a better surfer should I just keep doing it regardless of how odd it may seem?

Why not, if it prepares you better for a wave psychologically go for it :) just um... if other surfers are out there... do it under your breath... haha unless you don't care what your friends are thinking :) Long as you hit the sweet waves its all good :D

I also sing to myself.

Usually some crappy girl band thing which would be stuck in my head. It can be embarrassing when you don't realise other people have joined you in the line up!

I some times talk myself through a wave. But do have moments when i`m on my own and it is so peacefull, you can yell as load as you like. Kind of thing you do at the top of a mountain

Don`t do it when theres loads of people around, scares the 5hit out of them

hahaha,definitely this post rules!
I think its not so freak as it seems; it serves to take out pressure of your own, or for relaxing a bit in huge conditions (i laugh a lot when i realise im doing it...) Dont know if i explained well my point but, spaniards...

I normally have a little chat and also whisper words of encouragement...then I realise the board is behaving, it's the rider who needs help!
