Reef Booties v Real Booties...

Ok people, serious question & topic.
I'm heading off to colder waters for a surfing holiday soon, going from a place with a winter water temperature of 14 degrees celcius -where I can happily do winter in a quality 3/2 steamer & nothing else to an area which has an almost year-round water temperature of 10 degress celcius. I grew up in the area I'm going to and know what colder water is all about, been there -done that.
Now, this time round I'm doing it in winter, I havn't owned or needed booties for 5 years or more and this trip I'll need some for sure.

Question: Are 2mm, well made, well sealed around your ankles, reef booties a suitable "in between" alternative to a full-on shin length bootie ?
I tried some on today and they look perfect...all the booties I can find are like tramping boots. And I don't want to surf in tramping boots unless I really have to...
Your input will be appreciated.

i've got quicksilver booties with an internal split toe, they're pretty basic, but do the trick. they do fill up with water something chronic though which makes surfing feel a bit like wearing oversized gumboots...not exactly the most graceful experience. i assume you mean dunna's right? then you would deffo do well to get some booties, and a hoodie and gloves if you can spare the cash. my booties are 3mm but i guess 2mm would be ok...

Yep, referring to the Dunners pilgramage in October.
These reef booties at Bodyline factory are really cool, they have a zip-tie closure around your ankle to stop any water coming in the top and are really snug fitting...the thing is the soles are really thin. Not like my last booties (bless their smelly souls) were like surfing in Norsewear socks. Not going there again.
I think I'll buy em. I just want something to warm the toes a wee bit but not a full-on bootie...I'll never use them here ;-).
Should be fun. Looking forward to the trip. I miss Dunners.
