I recently got back from P.N.G about a week ago, and I honestly hadn’t thought that this was going to be a surfing trip…but it did end up being one and I had the most awesome time! (I originally went back to visit family and friends) I ended up heading out to Madang, Wewak and Vanimo, I stayed at a village called Lido village, unspoiled paradise right there. The paddle was at least 100 metres out to the reef and surf but once you got there it was magnificent! Hardly anyone out there except a handful of locals and the waves were just perfect to do manoeuvres on.

hello, pls can you help,
I,m thinking about taking a surf trip to papua new guniea in jan for 3 - 5 months
can you tell me anything you know about surfing here.
IE, can you stay infront of any breaks, is it cheap, expensive,
how many breaks are on the mainland, what are they like, reefs, lefts , rights,
i am an experienced surfer so am looking for good waves, especially consistency,
anything will be a great help.

thankyou

I am also going to PNG surfing in March. Pretty well decided on Vanimo. Let me know how you go although you say 3 - 5 months so you may not even be back by march. Waves don't seem big although nice shape and consistent! I have done lots of research and it doesn't seem cheap or too easy to travel independent.[/quote]

Did you stay at Lido prearranged with a tour operator or did you just showup? And if you did just show up did you still deal with the Surfing Association of PNG locals once you were there?
I am going and am trying to do it independent of a tour/travel agent.
