What does everyone drive to the beach?

Just wondering as i'm about to buy a new (second hand) car, and although I would love a Ford KA, it's not very practical for taking my 7'10 minimal to the beach, is it?
What does everyone else use for transporting surfboards? I'm after a small engine size too to keep petrol costs down.

Mitsubishi Delica, goes anywhere, can fit a few longboards inside, and sleep inside, seats 8 people too. It's diesel but a bit thirsty.
