first surfing injury finned

Postby lonechippy » Wed Oct 31, 2007 2:08 pm

Picked up my first surfing injury on Sunday , surfing waves that were twce as big as I have ever surfed before .

Took me about 20 mins to get out back and to be honest was not all that happy of the prospect of going back in . Got clobbered a couple times even out back and so decided the next one would be my last .

Caught it a treat but as it turned over was wiped out a treat , rolling around with my arms out trying to protect , dont ask me why I didnt squat and cover , the next thing a felt was an almighty belt right on my chin / cheek .

Thought that didnt feel right sure i felt water gushing around my mouth but it was closed ?

Got back in and blood was a plenty went up to the car pulled back the wing mirror and saw that i had been seriously finned , from my lip all the way down to my chin , it was seriously gapping , plus I could put my tongue all the way through to the out side , a term i now know as a button hole , but big button.

Luckily my surfing buddy was with me and took me straight to A&E and they stiched me up inside and out , dosnt look to bad on the whole .

Reinforced why you should never surf on your own and luckily I had someone I could rely on .

Its now wednesday , my board is still on the car and my wetsuit in the boot , will rinse out later today wearing full body armour .

Cheers all

One of my mates keeps getting his wetsuit cut from his fins, but its never happened to me.

When I have a bad wipeout I cover the back of my head with my hands and my elbows out the front covering my face.

But right in the face.........that's unlucky!

Pictures needed!!!!

Welcome to the wonderful world of skegging.

Sorry your first visit landed on your face :(

I'm covered in scars (45% of left arm and assorted smaller ones everywhere else). Make sure you keep it dry if you want to minimise scarring. There's gonna be some with a big buttonhole like that tho.

Looks like they've done a REALLY neat job on that stitching. Getting the stitches out doesn't hurt. I was dreading it, but the nurse soaked them with saline solution so they didn't stick and it was painless. Told my g/f the same when she had her operation stitches out, and she nearly killed me when she came out of the room, I forgot to say they should soak them, just told her it doesn't hurt. oops.
So ................. if they soak them first it don't hurt. :D
