hi guys,
I'm a product-designer and surfer based in Nottingham, England, (for the moment) and I need some feedback on a certain topic. After my own experience of the worry of leaving all my kit unsupervised on the beach, I want to find a solution that'll give peace of mind whilst on the water.
At this early stage of the process it would be a great help and much appreciated if some of you could tell me the kinds of bad experiences you've had, or someone else has had, where gear has been stolen off the beach, or even boards, whilst on the water. Also if you have any information about existing solutions to this problem could you let me know.
Finally, if anyone is interested in giving me feedback on some of my ideas when I get them drawn up, that would be sweet!
thanks
chris

Hi, best thing to do is not leave it on the beach if possible, but as i dont drive i just walk to the beach all i take is a boardbag, the clothes i'm wearing and my suit and board, (plus a key)...but i keep the key in my suit...this way if anything gets stolen theres nothing of value, although i keep a close eye on it at all times....not yet had any trouble, cross fingers for future

well i try to leave stuff at the back of the beach behind/underneath a rock. where people generally don't need to walk.
and they have the special water bag things for electric keys don't they. i can't remember what they're called though.

Just get the oldest grottiest pair of skiddies place out of the way and wrap anything you want up in them.
Only a beach cleaner is likely to touch them.
Soil as neccessery

I carry my van keys in an aquapac and wear under my wetsuit. I have a strong box bolted to the floor of my van out of sight under the seats for wallets, pasports etc (cost about 30 quid).
Take towel, wax, sunblock, bananas, water etc onto beach in scabby old rucksack held together by gaffer tape. Done this hundreds of times - nobody's so much at even looked in it.

^^ Someone has actually invented that:
This is a "Brief Safe", "an innovative diversion safe that can secure your cash, documents, and other small valuables from inquisitive eyes and thieving hands, both at home and when you're traveling. Items can be hidden right under their noses with these specially-designed briefs which contain a fly-accessed 4" x 10" secret compartment with Velcro closure and "special markings" on the lower rear portion. Leave the "Brief Safe" in plain view in your laundry basket or washing machine at home, or in your suitcase in a hotel room - even the most hardened burgler or most curious snoop will "skid" to a screeching halt as soon as they see them. (Wouldn't you?)".
What is the topper is that you can buy liquid drops to help smell them up. But I am curious as to why you would pay for the smell when you could just as easily wipe your butt and get that smell for free?
