Yeah i know

I don't get that. The media is always trying to sell sex even though some things have nothing to do with it. I.E. surfing I did a report on that this year. Does stuff like that shoot down ur confidence? or is that just me?

well its very annoying when yer reading yer magazine in school and a friend happens to borrow it for a look (doesnt surf but is bored) and gets the wrong idea and calls you a perv for the rest of the day. (im a girl) oh how much fun is that.

Frankly I just wish it wasn't so.
It would be nice to see a surfing magazine that actually featured surfing...not half clad teenage girls on every second page.
Not that I don't like seeing a pretty girl occasionally...but it would be nice if they were actually surfing in the process. Not just lying there with some dental floss up their ass.
I think all you young buyers of their products are actually the cause of the problem. If you weren't the target demographic...they wouldn't advertise in a magazine you buy & read would they???

Think about it...

i agree

there are more adverts in surf mags these days than there are surfing articals, however much i like looking at good looking girls with thongs on dont want it on every page there are other mags for that sort of thing

Yes, but I'd love one place in my life where I don't have half naked women comin at me, billboards, magazines, bus shelters, rap videos...you name it...it's everywhere.....
Our sport is being exploited by marketing & big-name globals. Easily influenced teenagers are being sold a lie...(i.e you should look like that). I'm old enough & honest enough to say it. I like a woman in a thong just like the next guy...in the right context (my bedroom)....but reverse the message...does every surfer in the mags look like Brad Pitt & have abs of steel. Nope. Therein lies the double standard guys.

Most guys actually do like thongs. Don't lie. Most guys are pervs. Most of the models probley don't even surf. Besides they wouldn't put that in the magazines if they knew people would like it.
Heres something else to think about. It seems like most surfing magazines have stuff for guys (women in thongs)ect. So why don't they think that girls surf and read those magazines. Maybe they should make the magazines for girls n guys.(not like i want guys flossing their butts)

Reef & Co advertise womens swim-wear in surf mags because women also read those mags, not as many as guys...but they do.
Just like Calvin Klein mens underwear advertisments also appear in Vogue. Not many men read them...but if it's lying around in the coffee table us guys will pick them up & have a flick through cause we're interested.

The ad's wouldn't even be there if their market research didn't prove the other sex read the mags.

For every example you throw at me about sexist advertising in a male orientated surf mag of some Doris in a Reef thong ad...I can thrown you an example of a six-pack clad half naked guy modling Calvin Klein undies in a womans mag. Or some Hunky guy with his shirt off selling something.

Both sexes are "pervs". that's human nature and how the human race propagates itself.
It works both ways. Don't be selective.

I'm a guy, I love thongs (GStrings they're called in Aus) and I love women, the reef ads are like, tradition, a surf mag without them would be a sad day.

Bring on the girls, scantily clad so I can fantasise over waves women and ... that's about it ;)

exactly, as he said, people who don't surf (ooohhhhhh I hear the crowd cringe).

;)

I'm living here at the moment, and there is a groundswell of interest no doubt, but no groundswell of actual waves :)

perverted - (used of sexual behavior) showing or appealing to bizarre or deviant tastes; "kinky sex"; "perverted practices"

Well, thongs don't seem bizarre. And liking to look at pretty women wearing them isnt either. I suggest more lithium for you.

Good call Inlet Surfer Very good. You sum it up simply.
Wear boardies if you think you've got a fat arse, wear overalls for all I care. Just don't bitch about it.
If you're so offended by REEF ads. Don't look at them. Use the best form of censorship known to man. Close the cover and walk away.

doubt it. I mean really would TWSurf or Surfer bother with a WQS rankings report for the back half of the season when they could put in more articles plugging the lifestyle? or better yet write artilces like "Slater's secret to great sex,...Yoga and laying @ Pipe!!"

and before you crap all over the Barneys, remember you were there once, picking through the mag in your neon Billabong man-pri boardshorts, while yer mom to buy you that new Lost Tshirt.....
