Have you thought about washing before you go surf?

Do you get other people's pubes stuck in yours? Mines full of them, no idea how they get there.
Nothing wrong with skanky wax anyway, I only clean my board off once evry couple of years or so. Makes sod all difference to how well you surf if you just give it a scrape and stick a bit more on top every now and then.

dirty wax is a sign you have dirty feet.
seriously though, it's a fact of life. the more you use your board, the dirtier your wax will be. Don't stress about it as long as it's still sticky.

Put it out in the sun for 5 minutes. Get a plastic putty knife scrape it off. Now it all depends how long your board is. Mine is 9'6". It takes me about 15 - 20 minutes to put new wax on. So 25 minutes of a little work and your board looks nice

I let my wax get too thick and dirty once. It had so much sand and shell particles mixed in I ended up tearing the skin off the side of my toe and ankle on various pop-ups that day. I knew it was time to strip off the wax and get all of the shrapnel out.

do you have to take the wax off and reaply it, or does it matter??

yeah, not sure how often, but I was told you can use something like an old credit card to scrape it off

Change it every season. i.e going from clod to cool (UK) others adjust accordingly.

^This is what I do too. Leave it out under the sun for a few minutes to soften the wax and then scrape it all off using a wax comb (but any flat edged tool would work of course).
Additionally, if I want my board to be really clean, I also wipe it down with a rag soaked in some gasoline. Really gets all the grit out.
