About 4 weeks ago I posted a thread looking for any ideas on what my injury might exactly be, its started out as a separated rib on the Left side and about 3 weeks later, just like a kick in the n__ts moved to the right side with stabbing back and lower rib pain. I could understand the initial injury on the left side but was a little confused as to where the new right side injury came from. Well, after two different doctors on 4 or 5 different occasions I went away on a little trip to attend a native potlatch on a remote island. During this time I developed acne type clusters on my mid/rightside back which eventually, over a few days spread to 5 or 6 more clusters ending at mid torso on the same right side, turns out shingles had broken out due to the "trauma" (thats what they call it) and immune system overload healing the initial separated rib problem. It starts out as shooting stabbing pains prior to the rash breaking out and can take month to years to stop hurting.
I was relieved to see that my confusion about the injury wasnt all in my head but now the s__t really hit the fan because if you look up shingles on the internet the majority of articles directly relate shingles to hiv infection in people under 50. I was sh_tting bricks for a few days before I found I had negative results. Having had someone close to me die from this disease put a lot of strain on me. Anyway, I thought this was a pretty interesting twist and ending to a surfing rib injury story and something to keep an eye out for if you ever hear of anyone else with the same symtoms. Cheers, Roly
