i surfed bolsa chica for the first time this morning. waves were fun but kinda shorebreaking. i saw about 10 or so dolphins swimming in the area, real close to me. like a lot of other surfers i'm guessing, i always kinda freak out when i see fins coming out of the water. then i start thinking about mr. white and get spooked. reading about the attack last month in california and how dolphins surrounded the victim before the attack, i admit i've been kinda spooked lately when getting in the water, especially after seeing a bunch of dolphins and just being reminded of all the sea life in the water right around me. is there any correlation between dolphin frequency and shark sightings? i wonder.

Thinking back to my days as a marine biologist *insert wobbley lines here* I'm sure that you don't get dolphins and sharks in the same area of water.
However I could be wrong as today I thought a dead slug in a river was a dead fish (fins had obviously fallen off). Hey! I didn't do freshwater biology it's completely different!!
Anyhoo where I surf you can get a lot of gray seals, when they come close and then duck under the water I always expect them to bit my foot, okay they won't do the same damage as a great white but you get the idea!
