Look on the bright side, he's alive, and now he's one of the few people who can say he survived an attack by a Great White. Sure wouldn't want those bragging rights myself...

That Joe Jansen guy must have super big balls, fair play to him.
I can't imagine seeing one of my friends like that.

I imagine seeing some of my friends like that all the time, but there's never a convenient great white around when you need one
Yes, Phil, I am thinking of you, just after you unzipped my wetsuit in the water...

As I understand it most people do survive because right as the great white bites into the surfer it knows its not right and spits it out..
I read that they use their teeth as their fingers so thats kinda how they check stuff out which is why a lot of people who get bit don't lose arms n what not.. just get cut up. because they aren't striking really.
either way i don't wanna come face to face.. although i'd rather die that way than a car accident.. die doing what I love.

Joe Jansen is a real surf bro. It's hard to tell how anyone would react to a situation like that, but I have a huge amount of respect for a guy like that.

Here's a link to an interview with Joe Jansen (third clip) -- from the way he talks, it sounds like he didn't actually know Todd before the attack. He's also pretty composed in the interview, considering that it was just a few hours after the attack.
Hats off to Joe...

Phil may have been thinking romance, but the cold water flush that I got soon put the thought out of my mind....

so, you admit that you were thinking romance BEFORE he unzipped your suit?

what do you think the dolphins were doing? I have read similar stories where dolphins circle swimmers in danger from a shark as if to keep them in place and slap their tales on the surface of the water to fend off the predator.
Obviously it didn't work that time but in other stories i have read the great white has been repelled by their protective behaviour! I love dolphins and really believe that they have some kind of connection to humans that we don't understand.

OK, so Great Whites don't always kill the "victim" of their attack. I'll buy that. Goes without saying, I don't want to run into the landlord at anytime whatsoever.

i was reading this children's book earlier that when a shark bites the surfboard they thinks it's yucky, so the shark just backs off. also human blood tastes different from their usual prey, the seal.
the book was so cool, it had pictures of different kind of marine animals and explained what would happen if it attacked.

Ever see the movie or read the book A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? Dolphins are the second smartest creatures on Earth, AHEAD of humans who are third on that list lol

...a little off topic, but Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is one of the sh!tt£st films i have ever seen, my girlfriend and i were so bored in it, we started playing rock, paper sizes......
more on topic though, it's good to see that he is making a recovery
