400yrds from nearest break, which is fickle to say the least so usually 35mins by car to somewhere decent.

Half mile to closest break. But I have an 80-mile RT commute to work.

Decided I would rather live near surf than near work, though!

About 300'. Walk across the street and down the beach access. This area is great for cheep rent close to the beach($600 - $900 a month), just that the jobs suck and slows to a crawl during the fall / winter months. Spring and summer filled with tourist sporting their Hanna Montana 2' boogie boards and beer.

I live a couple miles from my local, walk the dog there every morning to check the surf and decide whether its worth a shot or not.

a few hundred metres from Godrevy beach, when there are waves, the noise keeps me awake at night  but it does mean i can walk to the surf, thus avoiding the car park crowds

15 minutes to my local break, which is OK. I can see the waves with my binoculars from my bedroom.

20mins - 1 hours away are a variety of other breaks, some very good

Maybe 5 blocks but looking to get closer. I cannot hear the swells rolling in during the night and that is my goal. I was born & raised in Honolulum HI. Left for 25 years, did the college, marriage thing and now I am back in Maui, Hi. 5 blocks is the furtherst I plan on ever being away from the water & surf.
