LOL..

you'll probably know this as a chiro

I do crossfit.. which tightens the hip flexors.. to the point at the back of the hip it feels like tooth ache in glute.. then whatayaknow goes down back of IT band.. all the way to calf and sometimes numb foot..

only what i've been told, however probably not.. the worst thing is it plays up after surfing.. the movement of sitting on the board irritates it..

but you are right about yoga and that.. need to work on the range of hip motion.. PMO lol.. as well as stretch regularly.. I've never had it properly diagnosed, but crossfitters often tell me what it is :lol: :lol:

A couple more thoughts on that, when you consider surfing is about functional flexibility tight hip flexors inhibit this hence the recommendation of yoga or pilates, tightness in the ilio psoa the IT band will really limit surfing, there may be deeper issues if you are getting foot numbness, if it is simple it may be over tightness compounded by sitting on your board, so you are on track sort of.
really have good review of your spine and joint articulation see if there are deeper problems, if so get them sorted and then take up a different fitness regime, with lots of loosening stretch exercises, there are also surf flexibility programs available, because most other sport programs do not work towards surf flexibility and fitness :lol:

100 you are absolutely correct.. its what i need for long term surf fitness.. i'm coaching at a gym which makes me over commit to it, but surfing is my love haha.. in another life I would live near the ocean and surf more, and teach my kids..

I'll do it after my next couple comps in November lol.. I actually will.. its long overdue
