I wear the same shoes (sandals) 90% of the time....my wife has more shoes than I've seen ()....I had a science teacher that wore the same white jeans and black polo shirt every day for the first two weeks until someone asked her if she ever changed clothes....she told us that she had 18 identical black polos and 16 identical white jeans; she found something that she liked and worked for her so she didn't see any reason to look beyond that (remind you that she was a science teacher) ...............practicality may say that one board can work in all conditions but no one says that has to be the case or the goal.....what works for one may not for the other; I have boards that work in the same kind of conditions equally well but give a different experience when used (fish vs longboard for instance)...part of the beauty of surfing in that it can be enjoyed in many different ways. there is no "correct" way to enjoy it....a longboard with a little rocker will work in pretty much anything; but why limit yourself to one flavour with a world of tastes out there waiting!? Unless of course, that is what you want......and that's it right there.

Ok, this is a custom board. 8'6" x 27 x 4 inches. And no it's not an SUP but it is exact what I wanted and I'm pretty sure there isn't one like it sitting in a shop anywhere.

If it is second hand it is no longer a custom board, but if it suits you perfectly it is great board.

The first person for whom the board was built was the owner of a custom board ( built for them) after that just board, a smart statement to increase the price.

Often too there are signature models....... KS rides this, 30 in a rack, all dimensionally the same , not custom , but the same.

Ordering your first real custom board is a nice milestone. You think you know what you want, you talk to the shaper and configure the board between you, you might be lucky enough to see it shaped!
You have talked through glassing fins etc and it is done.

That is custom, do they work better, worse or anything different , mostly just a board, and sense of unique excitement.
