Also, another thing to keep in mind is that if you have enough spare money you can get some good deals on boards down there. So if you don't have the size board you need before you get there you can always buy one.

Not where I'm going  The only chance I'll have is to borrow a board off the group I'm with. I'm off to just North of the Mentawais and South of Nias.

Australia is pretty screwed up right now, some parts are battling high temp into the high 40s, bush fires, and the years long drought; other parts are battling cyclone and flash floods... most beaches along the east coast are closed, yesterday only 4 Sydney beaches were open, and only the Billabong Junior Pros were permitted to surf with watchful eyes of the lifesavers on their water skis...

Well, the swell is just about finished... It's settled down to 3ft at Cronulla, and had a good sesh this arvo.

Here's a few pics I took on Saturday morning when the big swell hit Cronulla.

Really you don't need permission to surf from the lifesavers, they don't pay much attention to surfers anyway.

I had a pretty good session on the reef edge at Collaroy (the Kick) yesterday which was probably around overhead and a half on some takeoffs. But very manageable and mellow and very hard to get into any kind of trouble.

It's been a great start to the year with swell coming through non-stop.
Today the swell has backed off but it was glassy as, and scored some great waves before midday still some 5-6 footers coming through once in a while. Lots of nice lefts with the odd fast breaking right-hander in there.

From my point of view nothing was insanely big and if it was too big there were other beaches that weren't picking up the full potential of the NE swell and so were pretty beginner friendly, like Freshwater for instance.

You just need to have a look around.

Finally the swell is good today, but some guy just had to screw up my day...

Image

A guy was was riding the wave, so I stopped paddling towards the wave giving him enough room to ride pass, but NO~! he just had to do a cutback which he screwed up and his board just flied towards me... I acted with my instinct quickly turtle rolled to prevent any bodily harm, and his board hit really hard against mine that I could hear the crunching sound even when submerged...

When I emerged from the water, I find two huge dings on the bottom of my board, one is definitely caused by the nose of the guy's board, the other one looks caused by rail... my poor epoxy board, only got it for around one and half month, and it's already got such bad dings *cries*

Welcome back!

Swells been good - got a few waves, taken a few beatings, that kinda stuff :bang:

Me and Jimi were discussing - over a few beers - the possibility of heading down your way in a few weeks time for a SW mini-meet. Up for that? :?:

Gonna be a bit quiet on the surfing front for me - Im just off to pick up MrsDBBB from the airport. We havent seen each other for three months.... so surfing wont be top of the list this weekend
