Should I buy a Thruster or Quad, Squash or Swallow tail, PU or EPS, Less or More Rocker, Custom or 3rd world ? Watch this video of Brad Domke. Then ask yourself " is it the Arrow or the Indian ? "

There is nuts for surfing. Then there are nuts who are surfing.

That video is definitely the latter

Still, I admire his enthusiasm and willingness to surf the waves. Seems like high risk for little reward, but I guess being pummelled into the sand can be fun in itself, after all people enjoy the contact aspect of contact sports.

I think you overestimate the pounding. I bet he doesn't get injured doing this. I used to bodysurf in waves bigger than that where essentially it was just the drop then a pounding. I never got hurt.

The break I used to bodysurf huge would have about 3 feet of water. Other people would get hurt. I don't know how many broken arms I saw. People would put their arm out and drive it into the sand. Why????? I never asked them. I suppose it might be a reflex to put your arm out to stop your fall? I tuck and roll. I was a more experienced bodysurfer. The guys who rode the really big stuff and there were only like four of us we never got hurt.

Small boards are good for generating speed. They are easy to throw around. Did you see the shark at several places most easy to see at about 2:34 and 3:51 just in the water in front of the wave?
