waimea is completely flat most of the time... and i mean FLAT.

and when its not, its huge.

wai means water. WAIkiki, WAIminalo, WAImea, WAIanae, WAIkaloa, ala WAI canal

there, i have just proved my localness.

if theres a modest n shore swell you want to check out, id say go to haleiwa first.

as long as you stay out of peoples way, nevermind if you think you had priority to a wave, or if its their fault, say sorry anyway, and just stay out of their way..

what race are you?

im asking because i get looks up there sometimes when im still in my car, and i druve a beaten up compact car and i have a 6'0 shortboard on my roof, so i know i dont look like a tourist.

whered you get that old quote from you psycho???

if im not local, what do i call myself? a current hawaii resident since 1983? uuh... too technical. where am i local to? sanfran? even though i cant name a single street name or know a single person living there?

are you racist?

this is that arrogant hawaiian attitide i was talking about. they pretend to be all low key and full of "aloha." like theyre part of a club that has a right over everyone else, like even though ive lived here for 17 years and this is all i know, they still have rights over me to everything in hawaii, and most of the time these guys arnt even hawaiian. but even if they are, its no excuse.

well if im not a local then what am i?
its not like im proud of it, if you met me youd know. i dress like i live in n.y. or something and obviously dont speak creole. but there isnt really any in-between, youre either local to one area or youre local somewhere else. why am i not local? most people on this site are local to england. i am local to hawaii. im not saying im local in custom, but i am in knowledge of surfspots. do you not know what local means?

they would probably say "how the fu-k should i know."

i have a friend who lives up there but is from texas, though i would still say he is a local.

besides, i never said i was a local to the north shore. i only meant oahu, hence the general knowledge for oahu surf spots. now you do me a favor, stop being such a whiney little girl and clean out your vagina.

exactly. thankyou sir.

i might come off as a bit cockey online, im not sure.. but people are never the same person online. and whats wrong with a bit of potty humor? what? are we all supposed to act like asian philosphers? its my way of showing i dont take this too serious. its more mature than giving someone a beat-down, that for sure.
i dont get what the big deal about pipeline is. the surf there is choppy a lot of the time.

ive been there a few times when it was about 6-10. it has a strong current sometimes. i say no. its not worth the drive for 3-6, and i dont see the point. anyway, theres supposed to be a 2-5 ft swell at daimond head this weekend.

Yes, waikiki is pretty dangerous. So many people and the rental boards are so big and heavy. I got hit by one on my head and it was painful.
Do you mean Waikiki is more dangerous than Pipe at a small day???
I surf at diamond head a lot. It has many reef and rocks and water are pretty shallow sometimes. How does diamond Head compares to the reefs & waves in Pipe???

How do I know if I'm ready to surf Pipe??? what do I need to work on??? is it the skill in surfing as in not falling off the waves or being a good swimmer??? Some surfers told me that I need to be able to hold my breath under water for a long time in order to not drown. I need to practice on my breath.

I would consider hawaiiSUCKSexceptsurf a local cause he had been living and surfing in Oahu for years. I think being a local is about able to adapt the culture and have the knowledge of the area and people. It's hard to not be a local if you have been living at the same place for many years. I lived in Hawaii for about 15 years, People think I'm local.

thank you also.

that old man doesnt even live in hawaii, and it sounds like from his other post that he hasnt been to oahus north shore either. so i dont know what hes bitchin about. he thinks he knows from all the surf mags. he reads. espetually about the localism.

i actually think pipeline is similar to DH on a small day, but with more current. ever surf irmas? its further east from sandy's. the current is similar. why do you want to surf pipeline anyway? haleiwa and sunset have much nicer breaks. also, on a small day, i wouldnt worry so much about the locals. the localism there is probably less than waikiki when its small... all the mokes go to waikiki looking to start something with tourists..

do you want to go just for the sake of surfing pipeline? becauae the swells are shifting right now and pretty soon the south side will be getting some decent waves.. from what i hear its been small up there anyway. maybe you should surf there first when its flat, or really small. just to get the feel.. then go when theres a modest swell.

if youre just looking for bigger waves, go to the east shore or wait for the southern swells.. it wont be long, did you go this past weekend?

I want to surf pipeline because it's a famous spot for surfers. I surfed at Haleiwa twice. It was cool. Last week, I surfed at the break next to pipeline. It was called Ehukai or Pupukea. I don't know exactly which one I surfed. They are next to each other. The waves is about 2 to 4 foot (Hawaiian scale), not that high but very powerful. I have hard time paddling out.

I think you will know when you are ready for pipe. kinda like when you are the one from the matrix....

Neo:
"So how do I know if I am the one?"

The oracle:
" It's like being in love, you either are or you aren't."

ok enough of the bad quotes from a decent movie, you will know when you are ready. If you realy want, just go out there and sit behind the line up (not in anyones way) and see whats going on. If you are freaked out and you saw how sharp the reef is, then paddle back in. or if its not bad, then do it, you'd already be out there.

It's exactly attitudes like Dopey's I was bitching about on the first page. That's low. And your telling Hawaiisucks to grow up? Puh-Lease!

I heard several interviews from the latest Tripple Crown comp and they were saying Haleiwa is a very heavy wave, as heavy as Pipe even, especially the wipouts cos they really drag you along underwater. Some (Taylor Knox + others) were saying it was gnarlier than Pipe.
So if you have surfed Haleiwa and liked it, why not give Pipline a go?
I mean don't go out if its silly obviously but if its a similar size to when you surfed Haleiwa then why not? Bassically we are only talking about surviving the wave here, we aren't talking about weather you can tear it up on a big day and outperform all the locals.
