The board goes in a rack on the bicycle, I wrap the leash so it doesn't get caught in the gears or get dragged, not sure how I could place it in a way it wouldn't cause any kinks..

Use a sock or a bag, put the ankle strap on a fin let the leash fall loosely towards the nose, close the bag/sock. There u go!

Yep. It's fractured and still displaced so I'm probably looking at a couple of pins and being out of the water for 6 weeks. If it does come to that, I'd love to push it off to November and just have them break it again to reset it.

had a chuckle - whats that saying 'doctor heal thyself'...an RN and you are like 'oh, it hurts but I'll keep surfing for hours on end, it will be fine'!

(not a criticism, just found it amusing - like an accountant who is late filing a tax return or the mechanic with an oil leak)

As the others have said, if you use a bag then just shove the leash in. If you dont, wrap it around the board not the fins.

Straight line down the stringer, at about logo area, hold the leash on the stringer and fling the cuff behind and back around to the deck, attached the Velcro cuff to the cord by the stringer. ( it's more secure with pointy Shortboards , but can be done with fuller noses.

My leashes are left free but my board goes inside my car. If I was putting it on a car roof rack I would wrap the cord between the racks for the duration of the journey then free again after. In my house the board goes on a wall rack and the leash loose on top of the board. The only problem with that is my puppy who isn't so small any more likes to grab the leashes and pull them if they fall off the board.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

I am a terrible patient, for sure! I have to keep reminding myself "what would I tell a patient to do?" and even then I convince myself that I know everything and have seen it all. With my previous job working as a certified trauma RN in the ER you'd think I'd use that in some way as a frame of reference! I'm a boss at stabbings and gunshot wounds though!

I'll store my leash that way from now on - thank you so much!

I take my leash off the board and coil it loosely, carry it separately.

You're right actually! Just saw surgeon - getting surgery next Tuesday 8/29 and will be out of commission for 4 weeks. It turns out it was a significantly displaced fracture and when I thought I reduced my dislocated joint, it turns out I actually reduced my complete oblique displaced fracture! The surgeon said I did it perfectly and even better than any of his residents could haha! But in the process I ruptured the collateral ligament so there ya go. I need open surgery with 3 pins and my ligament sutured. Not as bad as it sounds. I'll be back in the water early October (and this weekend of course - gotta make it count!)

I rarely take the board's sock with me when I go to the beach, but I guess I figured a better way to hold the leash:
Instead of wrapping it on the board, I can wrap it on the two bicycle board racks. Since they are a bit further apart I can make some more smooth turns and it's less likely to get kinked! I guess..

I've seen some friends do that, it does work! But my bigger waves leash is too long to do it. I think I can do it with my thin leash though..

Wish you a fast recovery! I'm impressed you managed to surf with a broken finger!

Thanks! I'm impressed I reduced my own (badly displaced) fracture and have been able to get out there 4x since. I've got a high pain tolerance after years of Muay Thai and maaannny orthopedic injuries (this will be my 7th surgery). I'd rather be moving and healthy and sustain the occasional injury though, right?!

Well with surfing you can get you kicks differently now. Keep the warm ups and stretches.

I set the backing so that there are no kinks in this area. Otherwise you might break it. If possible, secure the panel so that it can be transported on it. If it clings to the gears, you'd better raise it higher so it's stiffened up or transport it in a trailer on a rigid hitch. I did a delivery recently too and had to go to Asheville with injuries to get compensation from my employer. This board went over my tendon and practically traumatised it when I was cycling and it started sliding behind the mount.

Wear it like a necklace or banderillero. Or a couple few times around the waist, depending on the leash length and girth ;)
