I rarely take the board's sock with me when I go to the beach, but I guess I figured a better way to hold the leash:
Instead of wrapping it on the board, I can wrap it on the two bicycle board racks. Since they are a bit further apart I can make some more smooth turns and it's less likely to get kinked! I guess..

I've seen some friends do that, it does work! But my bigger waves leash is too long to do it. I think I can do it with my thin leash though..
