I say if there's already a World Champion competition in place, like the World Cup for Soccer, why have "another" champion for Olympics. We already have the WSL to decide the Champion. Plus the Olympic French judges would score the American surfers lower anyways.

There are 48 countries in the world entirely landlocked just begging for artificial wave surfing as an Olympic sport. And no zika virus either

Agreed.....some sports already have iconic competitions....I can't watch olympic soccer; there is already the Champions League at club level and Continental and World Championships (World Cup). Golf has it's majors, Tennis the Grand Slam....even new sports like Snowboarding and Skateboard Half Pipe have XGames. I don't want to see additional competitions for these sports; Olympics for me are Track and Field, Swimming and Diving, Gymnastics, Skiing, the weird things you don't see anywhere else like bobsled, archery and luge.....cycling, basketball, boxing, and ice hockey since the introduction of professional athletes has totally lost any olympic charm for me.

The problem with a non professional Olympics is that some countries like China raise children in programs to train them to compete at the Olympics. Essentially that is their job. They then compete with other athletes who have to pay for their own training and plane/hotel fares, equipment and have to work another job to make a living . Anyway no one mentions the ISA which is the surfing organization whose goal was to get surfing into the Olympics
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.
