yeah youngsters now text each other in preference to talking, how bizarre is that? Long ago there was no way that a single person could reach so many others so those who desired to were left wanting. Now they can kill a bunch of people and it will reach millions instantly and get talked about 24 hours a day for a few days/weeks or if they don't want to kill they can do something on the internet. In their pursuit of fame they risk their life often unknowingly. Times are changing. Look at Jerry Springer....I mean why would anyone want to go on that show? .....it's guaranteed to be a disaster but still they get the spotlight for a little while, their moment of fame. Motivations are changing.... values are changing. I still talk to people but I am just an old dinosaur going to be extinct shortly. Life goes on. The risk of dying surfing is still less than 1 percent. It's difficult to relate to such a minuscule risk.....
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

would a helmet that floats help surfers find their way to the surface quicker after a hold down?

I hear that even with static flotation jackets (non inflatable flotation) the surfer stays under for a long time till they are brought to the surface by the jacket so I doubt that a helmet will make much difference however that brings up the point that for a flotation device to be useful at all in saving a life it needs to hold the surfer with their head out of water unless you are relying on jet ski personnel to rush to the rescue. The static flotation jackets don't do that as well as some of the inflatable devices. What might be good is something that inflates a circle around the neck to stabilize neck injuries so they don't die before they get to the shore and along with that shaped to hold the face pointing to the sky without cranking on the neck so rigidly attached to the shoulders.......
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.
