Two hours and not one wave. Well, good on you for not letting that deter you from surfing.

This is a hard sport man. But that’s one of the things that make it so rewarding. Whether you stick with it is up to you.

As to the guy who got the “go get a longboard it’s easier to learn” advice ... I really hope you stuck to your shortboard ... and told that guy to go attach a motor it’s easier to catch waves.

Actually 3hrs each way and not 1 wave my last 3 attempts (unless you count the 3 second ride). I plan to make another trip within the next 2 weeks. Surfing is probably not the smartest hobby considering my circumstances but I don't care, I love it. Call me crazy!

The next time you find yourself getting frustrated, paddle back out to the lineup and take a timeout. Even if there's a wave coming, let it go. Take some deep measured breathes and just clear your mind. Appreciate what you see right then and there. Basically, meditate. Once you feel your heart rate back at a steady state, carefully pick your next wave. Commit and explode at it like a bat out of hell.

I think you'll be a bit amazed.

I envy those people who can just skip down to the beach whenever they feel like it!

I live about an hour away from the place where we go surfing... once we turned up and it was flat (I can't remember why we didn't realise it was going to be flat, I generally don't query these kind of things, I just go along :P) and so luckily the shopping in the town is brilliant :D So the day was not entirely wasted...
