The Key is frequency and consistancy.
You need to get out there as often as you can and just work on being consistant, and not just trying to pull off some sick move just to say you have done it....
As you get more consistant your skill will improve much quicker than just going for the one off, big moves.

The key, for me at least is saying 'Who cares' .........

Sure - it was nice the first time I managed to trim down the line, and being able to turn both ways is an achievement.

Managing to pick waves or get out back - they're all signs of 'getting better' - but as long as I'm having fun, not getting in anyone's way and just riding waves, then I couldn't care less whether I'm good, bad or indifferent........... :)

For me catching white wash isnt that fun when you see Taj Burrow or Kelly Slater. :( That's all I can do, catch white wash consistently. I'm trying to be able to catch green waves and have been surfing for about 2 weeks, twice a week. Thats not very good, i Know!

2 weeks, only twice a week isn't much time in the water. Keep on going out and each time you'll keep improving steadily. In another month or so you'll look back and be surprised how quickly you improve.

Yeah, surfing takes more time and patience than most any other similiar sports (skateboarding, snowboarding, skiing etc). It is so much easier to practice the other sports, but surfing has so many variables that really limit your practice time and experience. Think about it, if you snowboard down one beginner slope at a typical ski resort, you spend about 3-5 minutes on your board. How many sessions of surfing will you actually be on your board for 3-5 minutes of practice time? Considering most attempts to pop up and ride are going to be 3-10 seconds on average...you do the math, it could be a whole season or a whole year of surfing just to equate to one or 2 rides down a slope.

2 weeks, twice a week? Thats 4 times....

Into my 3rd year and still working on it, catching up to 4ft nice clean waves + bottom turn & on the face then keeping on it but nothing fancy not yet.

I just need to get my grandmother off my back (I live with my grandparents, and my grandmother forces my suck up grandfather to watch me whenever I surf, meaning I can't surf every day and I can't surf for long, plus I am not allowed to surf in the week, only on weekends, exept tuesdays, when I have no other sports.)
