I don't drive so regularly take my board (6'9 in a 7 foot bag) on the tube in london (nobody has ever told me it's a problem - just a lot of stares - and standing it up only takes same space as another person - not rush hour though!) - and then on train from paddington to exeter (there's a guard's carriage) then on the snail-train to barnstaple...all fine but knackering...
