Discretion is the better part of valour; cowardice is the better part of discretion.

Therefore, it was a truly valiant cup of tea I had that day

Definatley witches rock in costa rica! Did i mention ive been to costa rica before! :D
It was only head high but definately the most powerfull wave ive riden for its size. But it was the words of our guide ringing in my ears when we jumped off the boat!
"Yeah ive seen this place get to 15 feet"
"what 15 feet faces?" we replied
"No 15 feet swell, 30 foot faces!"

Couldn't stop looking over my shoulder the whole time i was in the water thinking any minute now that 15 foot wave is gonna appear!
Also the rock itself is so eerie, birds circling it the whole time and the swells slap the underside of the rock, you can hear the sets coming!

There's a few on Lewis that have freaked me out.

Eoropie beach at high tide in 20 foot mess, random wedges popping up out of nowhere, waves travelling across the beach and the craziest rip that pulls you right in front of a headland were the even bigger waves are. Feels like there's no escape sometimes.

On the east coast of lewis when it picks up a north swell there's a beach in a place called tolsta called traigh mor, the sand bars keep changing weekly and shifting with the tide, sometimes the 8 foot wave that's about to crash on you will suddenly rear up into a 20 foot close out - you try to duck dive but it's pointless as you're getting dragged backwards in the washing machine.

Also a cracking tube at Vatisker, unbelievable tube but at low tide you can only be in 2 feet of water & you really don't want to get it wrong and get slammed onto the stones, there's a fine line there between enjoying yourself & absolutely shi**ing yourself and going home!

i didnt even surf this one day yet i was scared to death, god it seems i should give up surfing with all the nightmare stories i keep remebering, it was in 2004, when the storms hit cornwall.

I heard Portheleven was big, so i drove on down there, but police were blocking people from going onto the beach, and even into the harbour,

thank god they were because the waves were scary even from a good 60 or 70 ft away, these pics are from the interent of the same day - take a look at the first one - what it is like when it is good ( what thought that day) and then the strom. try thinking about paddling out in that mess.

The lifeguardc ame over and because we had never surfed there before told us he would watch us closely because they had 7 people die there that year.

Yes, i have surfed constantine, it drops like a bitch about ten feet out, it goes down into a gulley where rip are strong, you get over that and back to normal depth, at mid tide it makes it interseting though, i have surfed chapel, and a place called KYNANCE COVE, lovely place, but scary as hell when it big and white.

Saunton on a busy weekend in summer!!

Full of kooks who have NO control over themselves or their boards - bad enough when they're on a shitty BIC that weighs just short of a ton and will smash your board into a million pieces as they drop in on you - worse than that if they're a kook on a pointy shortboard that has the possibility of killing you ........

Is it winter yet???
