me and da boyz hit baja today. Caught Teresitas overhead and a half with the occassional double that cleaned out the lineup, only 4 other surfers when we go there but we got our ownour and a half before a crowd of a dozen ended up with us.

Later we hit La Fonda and caught overhead weird beach breack, weird because what looked like a chest high wave would jack up to overhead and spill into 3ft of water, totally fun! There too we found our own peak for 3 hours, doing a bunch of drop in and bail outs, with the ocassional coverup and longer ride.

Fun, glad the huricane swell hit

Just got back from Taiwan where there was Super Typhoon Jelawat off the entire east coast of the island 35+ surf of the full washing machine kind
jelawat_tmo_2012272.jpg

You can see the outline of Taiwan against the storm cloud, the eye stayed off shore and not much happened in the way of damage just buggly surf ( = big and ugly) We did a day tour up the coast and only one spot was working and it was a non board day and of course it looked like this, it was the only place working during the Typhoon!
Strong Chenggong.jpg

The rest of the coast with little harbours and breakwalls was doing this

The South west coast presented this kind of surf as a contrast

or for the short shooters

and
Hawaiian 1.jpg

By the time the east coast settled down to a safe size I was back on the west coast and it had gone very small.
but I practiced my small wave skills and had a good trip!

Ohh, trust that top picture to be a non-board day, ouch.
Great to hear you had a good trip. What was the local surf scene like there? were there many surfers about?

That shot isn't one of mine it was from the local media, it gives an idea of the swell though.

All the rest are mine!

Yesterday I was in Noosa and there was a good swell.
Hundreds of people as well!

it was my first time with such big waves (maybe 5, 6ft the bigger?) and i spent my day paddling out and getting out of the way.

I felt I could ride one of them, felt safe in the water, but there was just too many people around and didn't want to hurt anyone, or myself.
I managed to catch a smaller one at Little Cove and had the only real ride of the day. Maybe 40m.
Beautiful.

But it was worth the be there. It built my confidence facing bigger than usual (for me) waves and had a great work out! ouch!

Were you there?

Was working through some older shots about my trip to the Mentawaiis and found this shot on the Kandui Resort site. It's of one of my favourite wave, Karangabat left right out in front of the resort, a sort whackable longboardy wave that runs for about 200 metres this is a smaller day
Karangabat left.jpg

It looks sort of weird as it appears to be breaking away from the island in the background but it actually breaks between two islands.

What an unusual photo. I thought something was off, it does look like it's breaking away from shore
Nice wave thought. Tropical setting, warm water, mmmmm
