My bad

Back to the topic: I went out yesterday, it was more trying to survive than surfing. The wind was blowing unimaginable hard. The paddle out was a b*tch, the currents were too strong. When I finally reached my destination behind the waves, I was taken 500m to the north
So I better wait till the wind settles down... a lot

Well it is scary if they come close, (i've almost been surfed over by one oncr) but they're mostly quite far out on the sea, and at our local spot is a special area where most kitesurfers enter the water.

Went out on Saturday. 6-8 foot waves. They were closing out fairly quick but I still had fun. Leash on my longboard broke and my board almost hit two short boarders :o .

Looking at the last 3 days of my trip to Oahu....been good surf and great family times!!
This evening we saw the new south swell start to show...if the trade winds are not to hard in the morning could be in for my best surf of the trip. Mahalo Hawaii, Aloha!
Gonna get some lotto tickets when I get home...only way I could afford to move here, and they way this trip has gone...my luck has been good!!

The nice thing is that if the kites are out.... it is to windy to surf. That way you will never get run over!!

Here's looking at you!

Here's another sort of wave
..

Had my Olympus out and in hand for these guys behind the break, in OZ we are allowed on a board to get within 100 meters ,if you sit still the whale can come closer. :D

Finally after a month of having a cold, and if there was swell missing it but there wasn't when I looked. At least there was nothing to tempt my soggy sinuses etc into the waves but yesterday and today it was back to a good surf and almost everyone else was elsewhere :D
The bar is back.jpg
As promised pictures or it didn't happen. Note the crowded lineup!

Jaffa

When I was a littler tacker I went fishing on that wharf in the background. I remember catching a small fish of some kind and was reeling it in when a pelican swooped down and took the fish and then tangled itself in my line. So there I was, reeling in a huge pelican that was probably as big as me (and being 20ft or whatever above the water). I had no idea what to do, I just stood there.

Eventually I thought 'I should cut the line', although that would leave the pelican possibly tangled up or dragging 30ft of mono. I must have looked pathetic because a local came over and said 'hang on, I'll just climb down' and down the wharf he clambered (well, there was a ladder) with a knife in his teeth (!), hauled the pelican in and cut the line right up close. The bird flew away.

Then the seals came in and ate everyone's fish. Which were mostly barracouta anyway, if I remember.

Anyway, that was the last time I was down that way. On topic, never surfed there.

If you believe the Magic Seaweed long term swell forecast, next Thursday looks massive; or according to Seabreeze its next Tuesday. Either way, something is coming.

I think a lot of people have fond memories of this area and I'm glad you do too. The area is still fairly undeveloped because most people now want to go where it is warm!
People still fish off the wharf but like everywhere else the fish stocks are a lot less than when we were growing up!

Strange thing about our area is it is not on most forecasts as NSW seems to stop at Nowra and truly we often see the mega swells marching along the horizon to come in about Ulladulla and north to Sydney. Our best option is when the bottom of New Zealand is getting a direct hit by a huge low and the back swell and can follow follow a Rhumb line back us as it heads to South America, rare but amazing when it happens corduroy lines to the horizon :woot:

Classic Imperial Beach this morning. Strong currents, big headhigh+ steep hollow waves. You could try for the barrel but it spilled out in the shallows, so the usual ride was a steep fast takeoff, tuck in, then either get out of the way or bail out the back. Some lulls in between but overal a good swell. Water is up to about 69, had the shorty but could have trunked it .

I haven't been posting since I'm not a local, but will do once in a while :mexwave:

Shorebreak: 1

Longboard: 0

Oh well, it gives me an excuse to buy a new board. My current one was pretty beat up anyhow.

Great waves today. Went to Tamarack but was very busy so went a bit farther to the right where only a few surfers were. Wish I would have brought out my shortboard because some waves were making perfect tubes. They were like a mini-North Shore Pipeline waves. :P

Should be even better over at the Oceanside Pier.

Bad luck lately...

Went surfing this morning waves were only 3-5ft. Failed a duck dive and somehow I ended up with the board pushing down on me compressing my spine. Thankfully there doesn't appear to be any permanent damage but I may be a few inches shorter  . Felt I could surf for a bit more after I took a break so I surfed for another 30 minutes or so. Paddling for a wave, too close, go over the falls, fin cuts a big gash in my foot. :bang:

Hopefully it recovers quickly so I can get back out there.

Sounds like you're having an unlucky streak mate. Stay safe out there. Heal quick.
Your goal shouldn't be to get on a small board as soon as possible, it should be to surf and have as much fun as possible.

Woolacombe was awesome today, and I think I've actually got the hang of it now! Trimmed properly for the first time, what a feeling.

I can't believe there are people in the world who don't do this, why wouldn't you?

First surf session after my foot (partially) healed. Still hurts a bit to put full pressure on it, but it's worth it to go surfing.

Very choppy and overcast. Water was very warm though. The face of the waves were probably in the 3-4 foot range with pretty bad form. Definitely not one the better days, but still had a good time.

Beautiful sunset surf at Manorbier, West Wales last night. Waited until the tide had dropped a little before the swell produced some super clean 3-4ft sets over the reef with offshore breeze. Not crowded and great stoke between all those there. Continued surfing until the full moon took over before realising you could no longer see anyone and someone was gonna get cracked on the noddle. Just one of those rare perfect summer's evening surfs where everything clicked into place. The campers on the beach standing at last light watching the action had a great view. One for the memories :)
