Finally!! :-D :-D
Today I went to Prainha - Rio da Janeiro. Famous surf spot here, the best in town (about 1:30h away from where I live). The waves were great! They were big (about 4-5 feet, it's big for me... lol) and with a good formation. Probably the best surf I've ever had!

The only problem is that it was a little crowded, and I've heard that there is a strong localism there, so I was a bit afraid of disputing the waves with other people. Me and my friend were the only young people there (we are 17), and we didn't want to argue with anyone. Because of that I ended up catching only 8-10 waves, but it was amazing anyway. Hope to come back there soon :)

Headed out to Prainha again. It was much smaller today, but it was still pretty fun.

Went surfing yesterday. Hadn't been out since *gasp* a month ago. Waves were 6-8 feet and were forming great. Tried a single fin set up on my long board vs the previous tri fin set up. It SEEMED more maneuverable, but it could have just been I am more use to the board now. I didn't catch that many waves for the whole two hours I was out, but the ones I did catch were awesome. Waves are getting even bigger over the weekend.

Today was the day which could've come much earlier: my season-start!
Anyway, I was pretty surprised when I looked out of the window today, because the waves were, for Dutch standards, wow!
The water was very cold though (8C), and I was covered in a thick layer of neoprene, which made it difficult to paddle...
Many surfers thought the same as I did today, and a lot of them went out.
In my opinion I did quite well for the first day of the season :)

That was pretty much it..

By comparison to Buttertoes and our Dutch Brothers the temperatures for early Autumn have been a doddle air and water at 20º C but a double underhead swell so just a swim for my wife and I :D

Much admiration for our frozen northern warriors  No gender specific language here, any one who surfs in those temps. are warriorsor penguins.

OH YEAH saturday 14th barely 10 degrees outside and a watertemperature of 8 degrees. So it was freezing cold but we finaly could paddle out to 0.8 meter high waves :D. Fortunally we have 5.4 wetsuits and a lot of rashies with heatpads in them so we stayed warm. After a lot of bloopers I then finally cought some good waves. Nice start of the surfing season :D

20C sounds great for a water-temperature

Well, thx for the admiration! :D :D In fact, we really saw a penguin! Must have travelled a great distance...

Today's little offerings, the death slabs up and down the coast were doing their death slab thing with attendant warriors and so this was the wave at our almost deserted break today, at its almost best slightly lumped by the backwash lifting the lip in the far righ.
Uncrowded with a rotation of four different six man shifts, severe spaghetti arms after sessions.
Now a picture worth a thousand words.

Had to push the 400 lense to get this and photoshopped to take out shadow but you get the idea

Gulp gurgle, yum yes, just waiting quietly for the sinuses to drain now, the first section was really quick before unwinding to a slightly more handleable whackable wall, so I think at least one wipeout filled the nostrils and the brain cavity behind it.
Non surfers always look so sideways at a good post surf sinus drain
How's 21ºC for an Autumn water temp :?:

Give it a few weeks like that and you'll be tempted to take a 10' out, just to see if you can catch a few

So today was the 2nd day of surfing this season for me and ZVS. Thanks to a so-called super moon we could enjoy (barrel) waves up to 2m, with a period of 6seconds. Sea temperature was 10C, better than last time, but now the air made it difficult to surf longer than an hour, with a temp. of 8C -_-. But we enjoyed ourselfs, which is at last, why we surf :D

Here some pics of this evening (even a bit better than the afternoon 0.o), several hours after we returned home:

I hear ya... Winter was pretty bad, blown out, followed by the worst spring since I moved here, and summer has been a bit like 2 years ago. Depressing!! Might be some sneaky windswell tomorrow, could be a little too much North in the swell to get in anywhere offshore but fingers crossed. Will be watching one spot in hope.
Your goal shouldn't be to get on a small board as soon as possible, it should be to surf and have as much fun as possible.
