surfed onshore 3 foot close-outs at Portreath (Cornwall North Coast, UK)- damn you Magicseaweed! rocked up to the beach after 3 months of not getting in, to find that. :( freezing cold as well- about 16 degrees celsius.

sorry to bring this up but that is not cold. surfed chest to headhigh runswick bay on saturday. -2 degrees celcius and it was lovely. I suspect a deal of manning up may be in order.

16º C we get water less than that in summer on the east coast of Australia, but the difference is the air temp is 40ºC you scorch across the burning sands and hit the water in rashy and boardshorts and immediately get two lumps in your throat.
Why? the NE winds blow the warm surface water off the coast and the deep off the continent shelf water comes inshore.
This can happen a day after 22ºC water. NUTS
That happen yesterday and the surf was double underhead

This is my first winter in the water. I suppose the difference is what you expect and prepare for. Our water is currently between 4 and 5 degrees and air -9 to +4C depending on the day. I've got my 5-4 drylock and 8mm boots and so far have been very happy out there. I guess we'll see how it is when the temp bottoms out in February :)

Spring is right around the corner...

Seas in the antarctic are from -2 to 2 degrees C so I'm not sure north Yorkshire is on the same scale? Especially as -2 is the temperature from underneath the ice sheet... And i'm just a 14 year old girl so 'manning up' isnt really valid option

-2 degrees is probably the air temp.

Beginner here. Today I went to Arpoador Beach (Rio de Janeiro - Brazil), my favorite spot near me. The conditions were terrible... There were only dumping waves, so I had a difficult time catching them. (I really need to learn how to take off in this kind of waves, I always paddle hard and when I look down, there is this huge abyss and I back out, don't know what I am doing wrong =/)Stayed in water for about 3 hours and caught only like 5-6 waves. Just a couple were decent.

It has been a long time since I don't surf in a decent sea. This is really bothering me, since I want to practice my surf while I am on vacations.

Went surfing on Sunday in Carlsbad. ~5 foot waves during sets and it was a bit choppy. Only caught two decent waves for the 40 minutes I was out there though :( .

It's forecasted to be good size all this week (5-9 feet).

Went surfing the last 5 days in Geribá Beach - Búzios (Brazil). The waves were small, but it was fun. One day, in particular, they got a lot better and I could finally catch some good waves (I hadn't catch good ones for months).

Today I'll go to Arpoador Beach - Rio de Janeiro, the forecast is not very good... but I'll try it anyway

Just came back from Arpoador Beach. Totally flat. I had to go to another beach nearby, Diabo Beach. The waves were small and dumping, but I managed to catch some good ones. I guess I'm improving my surf.

Over 2 weeks without surfing...
Rio de Janeiro is a amazing city to live, but not that good for the surfers. There hasn't been any waves in ages =/
I think this Saturday it will get a little better. I can't wait to go out in the water again.
And what bothers me most is that my college starts in less than 2 weeks, and I will only be able to surf at weekends.
