I love winter too! But it's nice to have a small day for a change! Early Sunday morning, strandhill Ireland, nobody out except me (an hour or so b4 anybody else paddled in!)! 1-2 foot super clean waves...perfect few hours for the mal and some easy paddling...and 20-30 odd waves!! Fun morning!!

Just to redress the balance...

I love summer!

30 odd degrees today, and toastie warm water 8)
And - slightly unusually for a summer's day around here - the winds remained light and offshore for most of the day 8)

I was out at Bondi today - a very nice session on the pink Harmergeddon (it blends in there so much better than at the 'bra)

Crowds were predictably bad for a summer saturday, but I held my own and got my share of waves. Oh, and a classic drop in on a longboarder... sorry about that Mr Longboarder

Last weekend, Porpoise Bay, in the Catlins, deep south of the south island. sunny, offshore, 3 footish, saw one other person surfing, but he was a couple of km's away. Shared a few waves with a pod of dolphins. Good fun, bloody cold, and got eaten by sandflies.

Couldn't find a shop that sold wax within 500km's of where I was, found a lump melted into the carpet of the 4wd under the seat, scraped it off with a knife, and have a nice fluffy longboard now.

Well, I don't usually complain about a surf... but Sunday caused me great unhappiness. The actual surf was ok... DBBB and Spiney came down to Cronulla, and a few waves were had by all, although Spiney (being 4ft tall and 35kg) caught about 5 times as many as I or Dbbb.

The bad part was that my van key came out of my wetty in the surf, and I had to walk home on burning hot pebble-crete for about 1.5km... then break into my flat... then drive for 30 min to get a spare key off another family member... then home... then walked back to my van (1.5km) then finally drove home (about 3 hours after I got out of the water)! Grrrr.

Lovely afternoon in Bolinas, California

Postby billie_morini » Mon Jan 05, 2009 5:47 am

Went to Bo this afternoon. Was clear and air temperature was much warmer than where I live. Water temp was 12C. Bright sun. Small waves. Lake-like at times. Clean water and a surfing sea lion. Couple of surfers, two standups, and a kayak. Barely anyone on the beach.

Was just what the doctor ordered. Caught a few waves. Paddled around a lot for fitness. Rested on beach. Repeated, but caught many waves second time out. Returned to truck before sundown. Had parked next to a patch of forest. Had picnic there. Enjoyed hot chicken soup from a thermos and a burrito purchased from a local shop prior to surfing. Watched kids playing, saw the sun go down, drove home in the dark.

Couldn't have been finer. Wished the same for many of you.

Bolinas is one of my favorite spots around here. Absolutely perfect other than freezing my arse off.

got out today. top class session, about head high, fairly hollow and light offshores. had no option but to use the fish which was intresting but really fun. took some bad wipeouts as the conditions didn't totally suit the fish. more of the same tomorrow morning for 4 hours...bring it on. gonna try and remember a camera this time though

north east was really going off today. only about 2 foot but really long rides. had a treat on the fish just flying down the line for what seemed like years. paddling was long though. nice 4 hour sesh might get another sesh in the afternoon if the swell picks back up after low tide

Bulk of this big arse swell arriving today here.. and as usual its offshore :)

Just had a short sesh today at fun spot shelterd from the swell, to myself. I was working with Gary who was along to get some shots. not sure what he got as the section wern't coming together that well for many manourvers.. we'll see.

Tomorrows the day with swell peeking approx. 30ft 16sec. Should set of a wedge pretty heavy.. fingers crossed :)

your constant offshore + big swell posts are starting to annoy me. the bit of that swell we're going to get is going to be accompanied by a bollocking strong onshore. should be enough to kick some sheltered spots into action though.

had a fun surf at rhossili yesterday with nobady else out. was a decent size with a very brisk cross offshore wind. had one or two good rides.

Monring Session: IB about head high but big heavy walls, just a bad direction for that beach, silver strand looked better smaller and Coronado knee high. Drove to OB and found some waves but still a bit too rough for my begginer bud I had in tow.

Ended up at Osprey at Sunset Cliffs, occassional big overheads that peeled and where super fun, some waiting in between sets. Kind of crowded, but not too bad. Good day, fun times!
